PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frito Lei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uruk Owraa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 98 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frito Lei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Uruk Owraa!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owraa lands a nice shot that snaps Lei's head back.

Oooh a lovely combination from Owraa sends Lei down but not out. Owraa dives into side control looking to finish.


Lei is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Owraa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Oh Lei is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lei is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Owraa has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Owraa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Lei seems to have got his legs back now.
Owraa tries to move into full mount but can't pass Lei's legs.
Lei is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Extreme MMA (7 Elites $250/week) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Owraa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Owraa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lei has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Owraa is trying to get an arm triangle but Lei is defending well.
Owraa trying to control the action but Lei is working from the bottom.
Owraa tries to advance to mount but can't.
Lei wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Owraa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lei, who protects the arm well.

Owraa goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lei rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Owraa's guard! Nice work there by Lei!

Owraa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lei doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lei manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lei would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Lei has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Lei got a little sloppy there for a moment and Owraa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lei has managed to get both his arms back between Owraa's legs - danger averted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Owraa isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Lei stacks Owraa on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Lei!
Owraa gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Lei escapes and gets back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Owraa swinging wildly here.
Lei keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Owraa scores with a body shot.
A slapping leg kick lands for Lei.
Lei is breathing heavily.
Owraa jabs at Lei's body.
Frito Lei is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lei gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Owraa.
Lei doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Owraa has a takedown stuffed.
Owraa lands with an overhand left.
Owraa connects with a nice looking jab.
Uruk Owraa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lei takes one on the button.
Owraa stalks Lei and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lei's face. Lei staggers backwards, shaken.
Lei takes one to the chin there.
No joy there for Lei, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Owraa pounces like a tiger and cracks Lei with a vicious hook! Lei is down but not out! Owraa follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Uruk Owraa!
After winning the bout, Uruk Owraa thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
