PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Juan Matus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davidson comes into the arena with August Burns Red - Meridian blaring out of the sound system. Matus has chosen Crow Spirit as his entrance music. Don Juan Matus has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Dustin Davidson's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dustin Davidson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Don Juan Matus!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A leg kick checked by Matus.
Matus now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Davidson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A little jabbing left from Matus on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Davidson misses with a lunging right hand
and Matus counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Davidson is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Matus has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Davidson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Davidson falls off balance throwing a combination
and Matus counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Davidson fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Matus checks it well.
Matus throws a low kick but Davidson avoids it.
Dustin Davidson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No joy there for Matus, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matus moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Matus scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Davidson doesn't seem bothered though.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A right hook to the body lands for Matus.
Davidson stalling in the clinch but Matus improves position.

Matus misses with a body punch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Matus lands a body shot in the clinch.
Matus tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Matus unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Davidson looking to stall.
Davidson is trying to maintain a safe position but Matus gets an underhook and turns Davidson into the cage.
Davidson can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.
Matus lands with a right to the head.
Davidson can't find room to land a body shot as Matus controls the action.

Our sources have told us that Davidson has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Matus lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Davidson.
Davidson is trying to break the clinch but Matus is controlling him.
Matus works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
A short body shot lands from Matus as the two fighters clinch.
Matus scores with a shot to the side of Davidson's head.
Davidson looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Matus misses with a knee to the head.
Matus is trying to force a seperation but Davidson has the dominant position.

Davidson tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Matus lands a shot to the body.
Davidson tries to break free but Matus pushes him back against the cage.
Davidson can't find room to land a body shot as Matus controls the action.
Davidson is trying to push Matus away but Matus has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Davidson is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Davidson tries to pull guard but Matus forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Oh Davidson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Davidson can't break the clinch.
Davidson seems to have got his legs back now.
Good body shot from Matus.
Davidson is breathing heavily.
Davidson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Matus stalling.
Davidson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Davidson tries to work over Matus's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Matus tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Matus digs a right hand into Davidson's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Davidson's gas tank.
Matus lands a nice shot to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Matus fails to land.
A right hand to the body from Matus.
Matus using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Davidson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Matus.

Matus landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Matus lands a hook to the side of the head.
Matus doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Matus working Davidson over with knees to the body.

Davidson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Matus smiles and moves away.
Matus throws a monster overhand right that drops Davidson! Matus follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Don Juan Matus!
Don Juan Matus was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
