Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sean Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burley Haines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burley Haines has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Richards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Burley Haines!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards lands a leg kick that knocks Haines off balance momentarily.
Haines ducks under a wild hook from Richards.
Haines takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Haines takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Haines takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Richards stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Richards wants it to stay on the feet.
Richards lands a front kick.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Richards.
Richards throws a body shot but no joy.
Haines throws a lazy uppercut

and Richards moves into the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Richards throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Richards is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Haines is defending well for now.

Richards lands a good knee to the midsection. Haines won't want to take too many of those.
Richards lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Haines on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Haines is trying to force a seperation but Richards has the dominant position.
Richards lands an elbow just above Haines 's eye.
Haines wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Our sources have told us that Richards has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Still in the clinch, Richards scores with a nice short uppercut.
Richards makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Richards obliges.
Haines drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Richards gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Richards lands a nice knee to the body.

Haines breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Haines will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sean Richards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Burley Haines.
Richards cracks Haines with an open hand slap.
Haines looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Richards is fending him off so far but Haines persists. Nope, Richards circles away and we're back to standing.
Haines lands with a cross.
Sean Richards is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Richards dodges the punch combination from Haines.
Richards misses with an uppercut. Haines saw that one coming.
Richards feints and then cracks Haines's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Haines down.
Haines throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Haines tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Richards swivels and escapes.
Haines on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Haines misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Richards.
Richards lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Haines throws a series of punches but Richards avoids them all with ease.
Haines tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Richards was well out of range. Poor timing from Haines.
Richards tries to close the distance and clinch up but Haines swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Haines is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Haines takes a swing at Richards's ribcage but misses.
Richards connects with a jab.
Richards gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Haines counters with a takedown into side control.
Haines gets to mount! Richards was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Haines can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Richards is looking to escape.
The referee warns Richards that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Haines is trying to control here but Richards has managed to regain half guard.
Richards is looking to control Haines's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Richards avoid being mounted?
My spies in Facebreaker Academy - Striking inform me that Haines has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Haines seems to be looking for submissions.
Haines is keen to just control but Richards is a slippery customer.
Haines trying to advance position but Richards counters by regaining guard.
Haines won't allow Richards to sweep him here.

Haines looks to score with a jab to the body but Richards is just out of range.
Haines takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Richards bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Haines's head backwards.
Haines tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Haines shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Haines was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Richards struggling a bit here.
Richards on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Richards looking for a sweep but Haines has passed into full mount! Oh no!
A nice elbow there by Haines.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Haines lands a big shot there that rocks Richards but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Richards tries to hold on but Haines pushes him away.

Haines jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Richards manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Richards is trying to control Haines's posture but Haines avoids it.
Haines lands an elbow.
Haines taking a break here but Richards is having none of it and regains half guard.
Richards is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Haines can do to turn this around?

Richards can't keep his opponent in guard - Haines advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Haines is looking to take a break and control but Richards is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Richards knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Haines on the ground.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Richards checks a leg kick.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Richards fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Haines.
Richards cracks a nice hook into Haines's ribs.
Haines misses with the combination.
Richards tries to counter by clinching up but Haines breaks away and moves out of range.
Richards looks to land a right hand but Haines moved out of range.
Richards tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Richards throws a wild body kick that Haines sees coming a mile off.
Haines throws a jab when Richards was well out of range.
Richards leaves Haines with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Haines tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Richards swivels and escapes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burley Haines showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Richards's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Haines jumps guard but Richards turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Haines is working for takedown but Richards is calmly controlling the position for now.
Richards lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Haines wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Haines gets control of Richards's arms and successfully pulls guard. Haines will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Richards is stalling in the full guard.
Haines looking to hit a scissor sweep but Richards is one step ahead there.

Haines has his foot on Richards's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Richards works his way back into a safe position though.

Haines is staying active underneath Richards, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Haines gets back to full guard.
Richards is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Richards drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Richards jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Richards keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Sean Richards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Burley Haines.
Richards will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Haines tries to land a front kick but Richards steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Richards throws a low kick, looking for Haines's leg but Haines calmly moves out of range.
Richards pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Richards connects with a solid leg kick.

Richards lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Haines's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Richards scores with a nice hook to the head.
Richards lands a damaging elbow.
Richards crunches a lovely knee into Haines's ribcage.
Haines is trying to push Richards away but Richards has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Richards lands with a left to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Richards lands an uppercut.
Richards is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Haines has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Richards lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Richards using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Haines has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Haines tries to break free but Richards pushes him back against the cage.

I think Richards has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
