PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anton Kuivanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jock Sleed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuivanen comes to the cage accompanied by Kanye West - POWER . Sleed has chosen I'm An Individual as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anton Kuivanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jock Sleed!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sleed slaps away a takedown attempt from Kuivanen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nice sprawl there from Sleed as Kuivanen shoots in.

Kuivanen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sleed sprawls well initially but Kuivanen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kuivanen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Sleed is defending against the submission attempts here by Kuivanen.
Kuivanen with the ground and pound but Sleed uses the opportunity to regain guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kuivanen is looking to work some ground and pound but Sleed has wrist control.

Kuivanen stands and steps away. Sleed gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Sleed avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kuivanen lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Sleed throws a body punch but Kuivanen moves out of range.
Sleed throws a leg kick that misses.
Sleed throws a leg kick but Kuivanen sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Kuivanen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sleed avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anton Kuivanen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kuivanen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Sleed is refusing to be controlled, as Kuivanen sits in half guard.
Sleed has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kuivanen is working away from the top position though.
Sleed is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kuivanen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kuivanen is trying to work for a kimura but Sleed is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kuivanen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Sleed gets full guard.
Kuivanen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kuivanen trying to control the position from guard on top but Sleed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sleed looking for a sweep. Not yet Sleed, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kuivanen with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sleed is pulling down on Kuivanen's head. It's preventing any offense from Kuivanen, at least for the moment.
Sleed keeping moving, preventing Kuivanen from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kuivanen clinches up against the cage.
Kuivanen fails to pull guard.
Sleed struggles to land a body shot inside as Kuivanen controls his hands.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Sleed.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sleed lands a nice uppercut.
Kuivanen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sleed avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sleed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kuivanen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kuivanen fails to land the takedown.
Sleed swings for the body but Kuivanen moves out of range.
Kuivanen drops down looking for a counter takedown but Sleed sprawls and moves away.
A lazy left from Sleed finds it's target.
Sleed uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kuivanen.
Kuivanen misses with a takedown attempt - Sleed sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sleed jabs at Kuivanen's body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sleed throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sleed takes a swing at Kuivanen's ribcage but misses.
Kuivanen shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Sleed leaves Kuivanen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anton Kuivanen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kuivanen takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Kuivanen takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Sleed shoots in and gets a takedown into Kuivanen's guard.
Sleed passes Kuivanen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Anton Kuivanen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sleed is trying to control the action in half guard but Kuivanen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kuivanen wants to control but Sleed is keeping busy.

Sleed lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Kuivanen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kuivanen wants to control but Sleed is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sleed is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Kuivanen rather than just go for the knockout.
Sleed fails to land with a series of punches.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kuivanen is defended easily by Sleed.

Nice takedown defense from Sleed. No joy for Kuivanen on that attempt.
Sleed fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kuivanen on the side of the head.
Anton Kuivanen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sleed misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kuivanen.
Kuivanen tries for a takedown but Sleed sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A nice side step and Sleed releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Kuivanen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sleed manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Kuivanen drops back looking for a leg! Sleed is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sleed manages to kick Kuivanen off! Kuivanen jumps back into Sleed's guard.
Kuivanen won't allow Sleed to sweep him here.
Sleed has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sleed is pulling down on Kuivanen's head to control his posture.
Kuivanen wants to control from the top but Sleed keeps moving.

Kuivanen drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sleed dives on top into guard.

Sleed throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kuivanen wants to sweep here but Sleed controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jock Sleed showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sleed waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kuivanen.
Sleed dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kuivanen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kuivanen avoids the body shot from Sleed.
Kuivanen darts in looking for a takedown but Sleed gets double underhooks and turns Kuivanen into the cage.
Kuivanen has his takedown stuffed
and Sleed counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Kuivanen is rocked!


It looks like Anton Kuivanen has been cut.
Kuivanen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sleed sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kuivanen somewhat.
Oh Kuivanen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sleed thuds a left hand into Kuivanen's body.
Kuivanen seems to have got his legs back now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sleed fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Kuivanen dives in for a single leg takedown but Sleed sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sleed lands a slapping body shot.
Sleed stuffs the takedown attempt from Kuivanen. Kuivanen gets slowly back to his feet.
Sleed connects with a leg kick. Kuivanen looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Sleed connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kuivanen's hands.

Kuivanen backing away here, and Sleed unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Sleed on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Sleed scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Sleed scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sleed scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Kuivanen is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Sleed can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jock Sleed!
Jock Sleed was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
