PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edu Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelvin Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parker has chosen Flash - Queen as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edu Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kelvin Parker!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parker throws a series of punches but Alvarez moves out of range.
Alvarez checks the leg kick nicely there.
Good leg kick by Parker there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Alvarez drives through with a takedown into Parker's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Parker can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alvarez controls the pace.
We've been hearing that Alvarez has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Parker preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Alvarez preventing the sweep.
Parker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alvarez manages to get himself to full guard.

Parker in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Alvarez has his foot on Parker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Parker works his way back into a safe position though.
Parker stands and throws Alvarez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvarez is working to avoid the ground and pound but Parker connects with a decent elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alvarez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Parker passes to side control.
Parker working the head and body with strikes.
Parker wants to take a breather but Alvarez manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Parker.
Parker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Parker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alvarez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Parker throws a big elbow that misses.
Alvarez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Parker is one step ahead there.

Alvarez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Alvarez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Parker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Alvarez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Alvarez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Parker pushes down on Alvarez's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Parker is working for a kimura but Alvarez is defending it quite comfortably.
Parker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Parker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Alvarez's head.
Parker working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Parker seems to be looking for submissions.
Alvarez wants to improve his position but Parker is controlling well.
Parker looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Parker landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Parker sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Alvarez defending well though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parker seems to be working for a kimura but Alvarez defends the submission attempt.
Alvarez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Parker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Alvarez wants to improve his position but Parker is controlling well.
Parker trying to mount his opponent but Alvarez defends it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Alvarez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Parker pulls his head out easily.
Alvarez is looking for a sweep. Parker is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelvin Parker dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alvarez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Parker.
Alvarez loads up on a big right hand but Parker slips the punch.
Parker dives in for a single leg takedown but Alvarez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Parker looks to land a left hand but Alvarez moved out of range nicely.
Alvarez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Alvarez dodges the punch combination from Parker.
Parker fails to land the takedown.
Kelvin Parker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A leg kick checked by Parker.
Parker throws a low kick, looking for Alvarez's leg but Alvarez calmly moves out of range.
Kelvin Parker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A combination from Alvarez does no damage.
Parker tries to clinch but Alvarez is having none of it.
Parker looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Alvarez takes one to the chin there.

Parker has taken the fight to the clinch.

Alvarez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Parker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Parker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Alvarez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Parker finds it's way round the side to connect with Alvarez's head.
Alvarez throws a low kick but it's checked well by Parker.
A left lands for Alvarez.
Parker throws the kick towards the body but Alvarez avoids it.
Parker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alvarez.
Parker doesn't manage to clinch there - Alvarez circles away.
Alvarez tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Parker is able to avoid easily.
Parker checks a leg kick.
Parker tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Parker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Alvarez counters with a single leg into guard. Parker didn't expect that.
Edu Alvarez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kelvin Parker.
Alvarez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Alvarez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Parker's head.
Alvarez trying to control but Parker is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Parker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Parker is trying to control. Alvarez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Parker tries to pass to full mount but Alvarez defends it.
Alvarez gets full guard.

Alvarez looking for a triangle here. Parker is fighting it but it looks tight! Alvarez pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Parker is tapping out - this one is all over!
