PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Randall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zazyinho Montana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jason Randall has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jason Randall seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Randall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zazyinho Montana!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montana shoots in looking for a takedown. Randall tries to sprawl out of it but Montana keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Randall manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fight stays on the outside here - Montana looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Montana has Randall up against the cage in a clinch.
Montana struggles to land a body shot inside as Randall controls his hands.

Randall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Randall definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Montana fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Randall, pushing him back against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montana goes for a takedown in the clinch but Randall prevents it.
Montana tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Randall smiles and moves away.
Jason Randall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zazyinho Montana.

Randall tries for a takedown but Montana manages to get underhooks.
Randall goes for a takedown in the clinch but Montana prevents it.
Montana tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Randall just stands there and leans against the cage.

Randall has clasped his hands together around Montana's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Randall tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Randall working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Montana pushes Randall away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Randall gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Randall is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Montana has escaped the position, nice work there.

Montana avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Randall.

Randall tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Randall has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Randall is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Montana knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Montana wants to control but Randall postures up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Randall is trying to get an arm triangle but Montana is defending well.
Montana is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Randall off and has taken his back!

Montana misses with a punch to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Montana thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Montana trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Randall dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Randall goes for a double leg but Montana avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Montana continues to drive forward.
Montana will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Randall appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Montana pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Horrible takedown attempt by Randall or perhaps it was just good defense by Montana, which made it look bad.

and Randall counters by moving into the clinch.
Randall is pressed up against the cage. Montana has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Randall down to the mat. Randall avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jason Randall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zazyinho Montana.
Montana tries to clinch up.
It looked like Randall was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Montana.

Randall closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Randall lands in his opponent's guard.
Randall wants to control from the top but Montana keeps moving.

Montana really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Randall. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Montana controls Randall momentarily but Randall frees himself.
Randall passes Montana's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Randall is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Montana has managed to free his arm - good work.
Montana is looking for a sweep. Randall is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Montana is refusing to be controlled, as Randall sits in half guard.
Randall looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Montana is not content to let Randall control the position.
Randall slows the pace down in half guard.
Montana preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Montana is continuing to stall.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Randall. Montana does a little dance to reset his feet.

Montana rushes Randall and presses him up against the cage.
Randall prevents a takedown attempt there.
Randall is looking for a takedown.
Montana is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Montana pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Montana clinches up against the cage.

Randall has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Montana uses from the top position.
Montana slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Montana wants to control from the top but Randall keeps moving.
Montana is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jason Randall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Montana must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Randall closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Montana to the mat! Montana manages to get full guard.

Randall drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Randall jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Montana has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Randall can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Montana's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Randall pulls Montana in close to prevent any damage.
Montana has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Randall is proving hard to escape from.
Montana working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Montana throws a strike but Randall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Jason Randall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Montana closes the distance and pushes Randall back into the cage.
Randall is looking to break free of the clinch but Montana has double underhooks.
Montana tries for a takedown but Randall manages to get underhooks.

Montana is fighting off a takedown attempt but Randall is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Montana to the mat. Montana regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Randall accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Montana can't keep his opponent in guard - Randall advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Randall is looking for submissions but instead, Montana has regained full guard.

Montana can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Randall controls the pace.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Randall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
