Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeremiah Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen Break Orbit by CFO$ as his entrance music. Jeremiah Hopkins has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeremiah Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve James!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James has a takedown stuffed.

James has Hopkins up against the cage in a clinch.
James is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
James is trying to drag Hopkins to the mat but Hopkins just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
James has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hopkins after a bit of a struggle.
Jeremiah Hopkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve James.

Hopkins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James throws a series of punches but Hopkins avoids them all with ease.
No joy there for James, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
James shoots for a double leg takedown but Hopkins sprawls well. He's pushed James's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
As James tries to get set, Hopkins tries to push him back and clinch up but James manages to avoid the attempt.
James shoots in for a takedown but Hopkins shows good takedown defense.
Hopkins really is a fat lump.

James clinches.
Hopkins's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Hopkins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James looks for a takedown but Hopkins sprawls well.

Hopkins closes the distance and pushes James back into the cage.
James is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Hopkins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nice sprawl there from Hopkins as James shoots in.
Hopkins attempts a counter takedown but James avoids it well and moves away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hopkins enables James to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hopkins manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James wants to control from the top but Hopkins keeps moving.
James might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hopkins haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

James wants to get up but he can't break Hopkins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and James wants it to stay on the feet.
Hopkins shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Hopkins keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck with that takedown attempt from James.
James tries a head kick but it misses.
Hopkins drops down looking for a counter takedown but James sprawls and moves away.
James misses with a takedown attempt - Hopkins sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sloppy strikes from James. Those never looked like landing.
Jab, jab by James - just one landing.
James shoots in for a takedown but Hopkins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

James gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Hopkins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No luck for James with that takedown attempt.
Hopkins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

James shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hopkins napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Hopkins goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. James escapes and is now in half guard on top.

Hopkins is looking to get back to full guard here but James has managed to pass to side control instead.

It looks like James is going to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hopkins is trying to stand up here but James is controlling him well.
Hopkins is staying active underneath James, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hopkins misses with some strikes from the bottom.
James blocks the strikes from Hopkins.

James is looking to advance position but Hopkins won't allow it.

James seems to be looking for submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

James looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
James thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hopkins actively working from the bottom here.
James scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hopkins tries to score a body lock takedown but James shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

James dives in and grabs Hopkins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hopkins pushes down on James's head and hops out.

James moves into the clinch.

Hopkins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Hopkins leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hopkins holds on and takes a little breather.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopkins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
James wants to control from the top but Hopkins keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A nice leg kick lands there from Hopkins.

James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hopkins, pushing him back against the cage.

Hopkins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
James is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hopkins sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Hopkins counters with a thumping low kick.
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hopkins as he avoids it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
