PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Floyd Myers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Folett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Folett has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Floyd Myers has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Floyd Myers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ken Folett!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Folett misses with a low kick as Myers jumps back.
Myers is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Folett.
Myers tries for a takedown but Folett circles away easily
and Folett counters with a stiff right hand.

Myers gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Myers gets control of Folett's arms and successfully pulls guard. Myers will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Myers has his feet on Folett's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Myers looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Folett wants to get back to his feet but Myers is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Folett trying to keep a closed guard but Myers is proving a slippery customer.

Myers wants to control from the top but Folett keeps moving.

Folett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Folett really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Myers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Folett is working an open guard so Myers takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Folett throws a leg kick
and Myers connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Folett bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Myers's head.
Folett tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Folett looks winded!

Myers clinches up with Folett and pushes him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Myers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Myers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Folett as he avoids it easily.

Myers has closed the distance and engaged Folett in a clinch.
Folett prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Floyd Myers. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Myers pulls guard effortlessly.
Myers wants to stand and escape but Folett is having none of it.
Folett must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Myers has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Folett is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Folett tries to break the clinch but Myers is controlling the position.

Myers gets control of Folett's arms and successfully pulls guard. Myers will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Myers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Folett defends well.

Folett wants to stand and escape but instead Myers has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Myers drops back looking for a leg! Folett is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Folett manages to kick Myers off! Myers jumps back into Folett's guard.
Folett is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Myers stands up and waves to Folett to follow him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Folett throws a sloppy head kick and Myers moves out of range easily.
Myers closes the distance and clinches up with Folett, looking for a takedown. Myers pushes Folett against the cage but Folett circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Folett avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Myers has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Folett uses from the top position.
Myers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Myers wants to stand and escape but Folett is having none of it.
Myers looking for a sweep. Not yet Myers, not yet.

Myers pushes Folett off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Floyd Myers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Folett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Myers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Myers has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Folett has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Myers drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Folett gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Folett wants to stand and escape but instead Myers has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Myers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Folett works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Myers stands and steps away. Folett gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Folett looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Myers clinches up with Folett and pushes him back against the cage.

Myers jumps guard.
Myers is looking to stand up but Folett isn't so interested in that idea.

Myers uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Myers tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Folett just stands there and leans against the cage.
Folett is trying to push Myers away but Myers has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Folett wanted to stand there but Myers had control of the position.
Myers wants to stand and escape but Folett is having none of it.
Myers is trying to keep Folett in close.
Myers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Myers is on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Myers blocks a head kick by Folett.
Myers moves in looking to clinch but Folett pushes him off.
Folett flicks out a counter leg kick but Myers steps away.
Folett misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Myers appears to be looking for a big counter.
Myers wants to clinch.
Myers tries to close the distance and clinch but Folett swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Folett takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Folett misses the body punch

and Myers counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Myers.

Myers drags the fight down to the ground.

Myers working for a triangle but Folett defends it easily.
Myers lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Folett preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Myers trying to control the position from guard on top but Folett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Myers wants to control from the top but Folett keeps moving.
Folett wants to get back to his feet but Myers is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Myers stands up from Folett's guard - Myers perhaps looking for a knockout.
Myers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Folett swivels and escapes.

Folett tries to keep at a distance but Myers has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Myers jumps into guard, dragging Folett to the mat.
Folett won't allow Myers to get back to his feet.

Myers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Myers is looking to stand up but Folett isn't so interested in that idea.
Myers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Folett can do to turn this around?
Folett trying to stand up but can't free himself from Myers's guard.
Myers is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Myers is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Folett is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Myers takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Myers ducks under a wild hook from Folett.
Ken Folett is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Folett throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ken Folett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Floyd Myers is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Myers gets a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Myers, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
