Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Demarcus Stephens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lazarus Saunders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Demarcus Stephens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lazarus Saunders!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Russell Pearce and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Saunders rushes Stephens and presses him up against the cage.

Saunders escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Saunders misses with a wild combination.
Saunders throws a jab but it's blocked by Stephens.
Stephens half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Saunders bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Saunders tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Saunders controls the position from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Saunders might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Stephens is not content to let Saunders control the position.

Saunders wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Stephens, who protects the arm well.

Saunders is trying to get an arm triangle but Stephens is defending well.
Saunders has knee on belly momentarily but Stephens bucks him off and regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stephens wants to get back to his feet.

Saunders is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Saunders is trying to control the action in half guard but Stephens is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Stephens manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Saunders seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Stephens is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Saunders postures up in Stephens's guard and throws a big left but Stephens blocks it.
Saunders trying to control the position from guard on top but Stephens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stephens preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Saunders pushes Stephens up against the cage in a clinch.

Saunders gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Stephens regains guard.
Stephens tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stephens bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Saunders's guard.

Stephens landing with the ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Saunders holds on and takes a little breather.

Stephens stands and steps away. Saunders gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Stephens gets caught flat footed, as Saunders shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Saunders looks winded!
Saunders throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Saunders closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Saunders lands in his opponent's guard.
Saunders content to stall in guard here.
Saunders postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saunders is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Saunders pushes down on Stephens's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Saunders takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Saunders has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Stephens tries to kick Saunders off but Saunders keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice defenses there by Stephens.
Stephens is looking for a counter combo.
Saunders fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stephens manages to avoid it.
Saunders throws a leg kick but Stephens sees it coming and checks it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Saunders tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stephens swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Saunders circles away from the clinch attempt.

Saunders feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Saunders is breathing heavily.
Saunders not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Stephens keeping moving, preventing Saunders from controlling successfully.

Stephens looking to hit a scissor sweep but Saunders is one step ahead there.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Saunders is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Saunders misses the shot to the body.

Stephens instigates a clinch.

Saunders has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Stephens is trying to keep an underhook but Saunders manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Stephens makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stephens.

Stephens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lazarus Saunders showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stephens slips a jab and a cross from Saunders.
It looked like Stephens was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Saunders.

Saunders has taken the fight to the clinch.
Saunders takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Saunders gets control of Stephens's arms and successfully pulls guard. Saunders will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Stephens would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Stephens postures up and lands a big shot to Saunders's brow.
Stephens knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Saunders on the ground.

Saunders utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Saunders trying to keep a closed guard but Stephens is proving a slippery customer.
Stephens wants to stand but Saunders has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Saunders looking for a sweep. Not yet Saunders, not yet.

Saunders manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stephens on his heels. He'll look to pass Stephens's guard now, I'm sure.

Saunders wants to pass the guard but Stephens is defending well.

Lazarus Saunders is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Saunders has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
