PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Keimah Animai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koji Kanegi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Animai's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Beat It. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Keimah Animai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Koji Kanegi!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kanegi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Animai finds it's way round the side to connect with Kanegi's head.
Kanegi misses with a series of wild punches.
Some wild striking there from Kanegi.
Animai definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Kanegi avoids the head kick by Animai.
Kanegi swinging wildly here.
Animai is looking to counter punch.
Animai throws a jab but it's blocked by Kanegi.

It looks like Koji Kanegi has been cut.
Kanegi blocks a head kick by Animai.
Kanegi throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Animai misses with a head kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Horrible takedown attempt by Kanegi or perhaps it was just good defense by Animai, which made it look bad.
Animai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Animai missing with a left hand there. Kanegi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kanegi ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kanegi lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Animai at a distance.
Animai throws a sloppy head kick and Kanegi moves out of range easily.
Kanegi moves away from the strike by Animai.
Kanegi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Kanegi lunges at Animai with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Animai's hand.
Animai throws a head kick that misses.
Kanegi slips under a jab.
The fighters circling - Kanegi throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Kanegi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Animai is looking to improve his position.
Kanegi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kanegi lands a nice short elbow.
Animai pushes Kanegi off looking to stand but Kanegi dives back in and keeps control.

Kanegi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Animai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kanegi connects with a nice short shot to Animai's temple.
Animai gets back to full guard.

Animai working for a triangle but Kanegi defends it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kanegi wants to pass the guard but Animai is keeping the position.
Animai will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Animai wants to sweep here but Kanegi controlling him for the moment.

Animai wants to stand and escape but Kanegi is having none of it.
Kanegi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Animai has his foot on Kanegi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kanegi works his way back into a safe position though.
Kanegi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Animai swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Animai has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kanegi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Animai is looking to stand up but Kanegi isn't so interested in that idea.

Kanegi is working Animai over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Animai wants to stand but Kanegi is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Animai is looking to cinch up a triangle. Kanegi throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Animai's body to avoid the submission. Animai has instead reached around Kanegi's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Animai arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Keimah Animai!
Keimah Animai got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
In defeat, Koji Kanegi stepped up to the mic, saying 'Team Goroshi - Kore Fight Nutrition - Stark Slugger Society - Last Man Standing'.
