PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wilber Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Wilber Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joseph Harrison!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harrison shoots in but Grant avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Grant swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Grant tries to clinch up but Harrison circles away and keeps his distance.

Grant scores with a takedown into Harrison's guard.
Harrison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Grant is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harrison is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Grant dives into side control.
Grant tries to stand but Harrison is controlling his head.
Harrison tries to escape but Grant is in control.
Grant fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Harrison is pushing Grant's head away, looking to escape. Grant manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Harrison throws a nice looking combination but Grant bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Harrison should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Harrison tries to clinch but Grant moves away

and Grant counters with a nice double leg into side control. Harrison won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harrison is pushing Grant's head away, looking to escape. Grant manages to hold on to the position though.

Grant is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Harrison knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Grant swings around for an armbar but Harrison sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Grant's guard.
Grant is trying to keep Harrison in close.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Harrison wants to control from the top but Grant keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Harrison is fighting to break Grant's control of his arms but Grant is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Harrison postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Grant shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Harrison defends it nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Grant jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Harrison pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Grant appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Harrison tries to close the distance and clinch up but Grant swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Grant wants to clinch up but Harrison keeps it at a distance.
Harrison shoots for a takedown but Grant saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Grant changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Harrison misses with a two punch combination.

Harrison throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Grant tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Harrison is in Grant's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grant has Harrison pulled in close to control his posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Harrison wants to control from the top but Grant keeps moving.

Grant wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

and Grant counters with a straight right hand.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grant swats away the attempt to clinch by Harrison.

Harrison dives in and scores a takedown into Grant's guard.
Harrison is fighting to break Grant's control of his arms but Grant is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Grant is trying to control the position but Harrison postures up.

Harrison wants to control from the top but Grant keeps moving.
Harrison prevents Grant from getting back to his feet.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Grant is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Grant moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Harrison looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Grant swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Harrison has his takedown stuffed
and Grant counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Wilber Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joseph Harrison.
Grant avoids a punch combination nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A telegraphed right hand from Grant misses the target.
Harrison dives in and grabs Grant's left leg, looking for a takedown. Grant pushes down on Harrison's head and hops out.
Grant attempts a counter takedown but Harrison avoids it well and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Harrison showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

and Harrison takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Harrison tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Grant manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Grant gets caught napping as Harrison dives in and scores a takedown. Grant manages to retain guard.

Harrison is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Grant is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Grant has escaped and now he's on top!

Harrison takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Grant wants to get up but he can't break Harrison's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Harrison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Grant is controlling him.

Harrison scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Grant shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Grant is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Harrison.

Harrison has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Grant works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Harrison wants to stand and escape but Grant is having none of it.
Grant wants to stand but Harrison has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Wilber Grant overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harrison wants to stand up but Grant is controlling him.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Harrison shoots in looking for a takedown but Grant manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Harrison's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Harrison fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Grant to the ground. Harrison is now in Grant's guard.
Harrison in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Harrison accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Grant escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Harrison gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Grant is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Harrison controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Joseph Harrison.
I think Harrison has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
