Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeremiah Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scott Ian!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ben Hemmingworth and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ian moves into the clinch.
Ian drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ian pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ian closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hopkins taking some punishment here, with Ian in his half guard.
Hopkins avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ian.

Well, if Ian is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ian prevents Hopkins from standing back up.

Hopkins is defending against the submission attempts here by Ian.
Ian is trying to control. Hopkins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ian landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Ian tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hopkins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hopkins is looking to control Ian's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hopkins avoid being mounted?
Ian seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hopkins shoots in but Ian avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Scott Ian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hopkins enables Ian to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hopkins manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Hopkins can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ian controls the pace.

Ian stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopkins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ian controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ian has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ian decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ian defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hopkins.
Ian misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ian fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jeremiah Hopkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Ian.

Ian throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hopkins was covering up waiting for the punch and Ian finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Ian rushes Hopkins and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Ian keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hopkins's efforts to push away.

Ian has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hopkins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ian scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Hopkins defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ian.
Hopkins half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Hopkins really is a fat lump.
Good leg kick by Hopkins there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Ian closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ian lands in his opponent's guard.
Ian is breathing heavily.

Ian stands up and waves to Hopkins to follow him.

Ian shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hopkins counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ian throws a solid leg kick but Hopkins takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ian.
Ian fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hopkins wants to clinch up but Ian keeps it at a distance.

Ian moves into the clinch.
Ian lands a nice elbow.
Ian jumps guard but Hopkins turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Ian wants to break free but Hopkins has control.
Hopkins stalling the fight.

Hopkins gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.
A frustrated look appears on Ian's face as he tries to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hopkins is looking to control Ian's arms but Ian gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hopkins has his back to the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Hopkins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ian shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hopkins but Hopkins pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hopkins throws a sloppy head kick and Ian moves out of range easily.
Ian throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Hopkins decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Ian wants to control but Hopkins is keeping busy.

Hopkins looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hopkins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ian has his hands clasped together around Hopkins's back. He's all about the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ian pushes Hopkins off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Scott Ian will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ian, right into the meat.

Ian lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Hopkins might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
