And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasililiev throws a leg kick
and Pettis counters with a two punch combo.
Pettis fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vasililiev looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Vasililiev is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pettis.
Pettis lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Vasililiev rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Pettis counters with a straight right hand.
Pettis bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Vasililiev's head backwards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vasililiev throws a poor cross that misses
and Pettis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Vasililiev doesn't manage to clinch there - Pettis circles away.
Despite the aggression on Pettis's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

and Pettis counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Pettis comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Vasililiev fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Pettis throws a one two combo.
Pettis scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Vasililiev takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A head kick by Vasililiev misses
and Pettis counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Pettis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vasililiev circles away quickly and effectively.
Vasililiev throws a combination that misses
and Pettis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've been hearing reports that Vasililiev has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pettis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pettis tests Vasililiev's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Yardigalovich Vasililiev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pettis goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Oh Vasililiev is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pettis circles away from the clinch attempt
and Pettis counters with a nice body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pettis throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Vasililiev's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Pettis dives in looking to finish as Vasililiev flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Pettis's strikes! Pettis is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Vasililiev's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Vasililiev was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
