PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lee Kwang Soo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kwang Soo's entrance music is Smells Like Teen Spirit. A fine choice. Rogers has chosen The End by The Doors as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 23 - 1, fighting out of London, Lee Kwang Soo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 42 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice inside leg kick there by Rogers. That's going to slow Kwang Soo down.
Rogers will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kwang Soo stuffs the takedown attempt from Rogers. Rogers gets slowly back to his feet.
Rogers misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rogers changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kwang Soo tries to avoid it but Rogers manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kwang Soo to the ground. Kwang Soo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kwang Soo dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Kwang Soo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kwang Soo showed some decent athleticism there.
Kwang Soo drops an elbow to the side of Rogers's head.
Kwang Soo blocks the strikes from Rogers.
Kwang Soo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rogers's head.
Rogers wants to get back to full guard.
Rogers tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kwang Soo manages to move to mount!

Rogers wants to hold on but Kwang Soo pushes him away.
Rogers can't escape the position.
Kwang Soo lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rogers hang on?
Rogers tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kwang Soo lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kwang Soo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rogers keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rogers is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rogers tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rogers tries to hold on but Kwang Soo postures up.

Rogers is wriggling around trying to escape.
Rogers regains half guard.
Kwang Soo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Rogers is looking to control Kwang Soo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rogers avoid being mounted?
Rogers is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kwang Soo lands a nice short elbow.

Kwang Soo is nestled in close to Rogers, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

I wouldn't like to be where Rogers is right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Kwang Soo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kwang Soo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kwang Soo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rogers manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kwang Soo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rogers swivels and escapes.

Rogers gets caught napping as Kwang Soo dives in and scores a takedown. Rogers manages to retain guard.

Rogers has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kwang Soo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rogers.
Rogers tries to improve position but can't.
Rogers pushes Kwang Soo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kwang Soo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kwang Soo wants to pass the guard but Rogers is defending well.

Rogers flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Kwang Soo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rogers can do to turn this around?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rogers throws a leg kick but Kwang Soo sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Steve Rogers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rogers fails to land with a series of punches.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Kwang Soo.
Rogers will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kwang Soo is trying to trip Rogers. He has hold of a leg but Rogers is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kwang Soo persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Rogers not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kwang Soo prevents Rogers from getting back to his feet.

Rogers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kwang Soo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rogers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kwang Soo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rogers defends well and Kwang Soo ends up having to push Rogers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Rogers misses with a low kick as Kwang Soo jumps back.
Rogers has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Kwang Soo lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Kwang Soo takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rogers wants to get back to striking at distance but Kwang Soo won't allow it.

Still in the clinch, Kwang Soo scores with a nice short uppercut.
Kwang Soo has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rogers after a bit of a struggle.
Rogers stalling in the clinch but Kwang Soo improves position.
Kwang Soo tries a body shot but Rogers blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kwang Soo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Rogers's elbow.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kwang Soo creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Kwang Soo is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rogers can't fight it off and eventually Kwang Soo manages to take the fight to the floor. Rogers looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Horrible takedown attempt by Kwang Soo or perhaps it was just good defense by Rogers, which made it look bad.

Rogers gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rogers controls Kwang Soo momentarily but Kwang Soo frees himself.
Steve Rogers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rogers doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lee Kwang Soo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kwang Soo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
