PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Raiymbek Batyr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santiago Riasco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riasco has chosen The Mexakinz ft. Xzibit - The Wake Up Show as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raiymbek Batyr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Santiago Riasco!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batyr tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fight stays on the outside here - Batyr looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Batyr seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Riasco closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Riasco lands in his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Batyr trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Riasco has hold of Batyr's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Batyr manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Riasco is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Batyr to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Batyr shrugs it off.

Riasco has control of Batyr's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Batyr regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Batyr's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santiago Riasco dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck for Riasco with that takedown attempt.
Riasco shoots in and drives through. Batyr sprawls well.
Batyr misses with a wild combination.
Batyr chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Batyr throws a head kick that misses.
Raiymbek Batyr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Batyr tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Riasco manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Riasco shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Batyr pinned against the cage. Batyr gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Raiymbek Batyr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santiago Riasco.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Riasco manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Batyr on his heels. He'll look to pass Batyr's guard now, I'm sure.

Riasco is keen to just control but Batyr is a slippery customer.

Riasco is working for a kimura but Batyr is defending it quite comfortably.
Batyr pushes Riasco off looking to stand but Riasco dives back in and keeps control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Riasco looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Batyr wants to get back to his feet.
Riasco is pressing down on Batyr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Batyr is holding on for now.
Batyr is trying to stand back up but Riasco is controlling him

Batyr makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Riasco drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Oooh a lovely combination from Batyr sends Riasco down but not out. Batyr dives into side control looking to finish.

Batyr is posturing up here but Riasco has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Batyr tries to roll out but it's too tight and Batyr has to tap! Slick submission there by Riasco!
