PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reed Mckenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taka Yoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Reed Mckenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Taka Yoshi!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshi takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Yoshi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mckenzie sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yoshi somewhat.

Yoshi clinches with his opponent.
Yoshi blocks an elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yoshi turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Yoshi manages to end up in side control.
Yoshi is putting a hurting on Mckenzie here, landing some big shots from side control.
Yoshi controlling the position.
Mckenzie is looking to get back to his feet here but Yoshi is keeping cool and he's managed to take Mckenzie's back.

Mckenzie tries to roll but Yoshi sticks to his back.
Mckenzie could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
I would not like to be Mckenzie right now.
Mckenzie trying to control the hands but Yoshi breaks the grip.
Mckenzie grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Yoshi has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Mckenzie.


It looks like Reed Mckenzie has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yoshi is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Yoshi goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Mckenzie escapes and is now in half guard on top.

Mckenzie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Yoshi is just riding it out for now. Mckenzie eventually gives up the hold.

Yoshi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mckenzie has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Yoshi is proving hard to escape from.

Yoshi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mckenzie defends well.
Yoshi throws a couple of heel strikes.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Yoshi is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mckenzie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Yoshi looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Yoshi looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Yoshi!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mckenzie tries to escape but Yoshi is in control.
Yoshi has knee on belly and moves into mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Taka Yoshi dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Reed Mckenzie's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mckenzie pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Yoshi shoots in but Mckenzie avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Mckenzie gets a clinch.
Yoshi prevents Mckenzie from breaking the clinch.
Yoshi is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mckenzie pulls him back up using the underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mckenzie misses with a knee to the head.

Yoshi jumps into guard, dragging Mckenzie to the mat.
Mckenzie throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mckenzie wants to stand but Yoshi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Yoshi looking to control.
Mckenzie wants to control from the top but Yoshi keeps moving.
Mckenzie won't allow Yoshi to get back to his feet.
Yoshi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshi managing to control the position.
Yoshi is continuing to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Yoshi dives in for a single leg takedown but Mckenzie sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Reed Mckenzie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Taka Yoshi.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Yoshi pushes Mckenzie up against the cage in a clinch.
Yoshi misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mckenzie.
Yoshi has Mckenzie pressed against the cage.
Mckenzie dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Mckenzie throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Yoshi blocks it with crossed arms.
Yoshi avoids a wild elbow strike from Mckenzie.
Mckenzie tries to land a knee to the head but Yoshi blocks with his arms.
Yoshi prevents a takedown attempt there.

Yoshi blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Yoshi on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Yoshi tries to score a body lock takedown but Mckenzie shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Mckenzie tries to land a knee to the head but Yoshi blocks with his arms.
Mckenzie is trying to stall.
Yoshi blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Yoshi jumps guard but Mckenzie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Yoshi is looking to take this one to the mat.

Yoshi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Yoshi misses with a low kick.

Yoshi gets a double leg takedown into Mckenzie's guard.
Yoshi's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Yoshi is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Yoshi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Yoshi is looking to work some ground and pound but Mckenzie has wrist control.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Mckenzie throws a body kick that misses.

Yoshi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mckenzie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Taka Yoshi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Yoshi scores with punches from side control.
Mckenzie sneaks back into half guard.
Yoshi slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yoshi is nestled in close to Mckenzie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Yoshi keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Yoshi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mckenzie wants to get back to his feet.
Yoshi is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Mckenzie blocks a head kick by Yoshi.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mckenzie looks to clinch
and Yoshi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mckenzie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Yoshi fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Yoshi.
Yoshi connects with a body shot.

Mckenzie moves into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshi just leaning against Mckenzie, taking a breather.
Yoshi presses Mckenzie against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Mckenzie tries to pull guard but Yoshi holds him up against the cage and eventually Mckenzie drops back down to his feet.
Yoshi is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Yoshi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mckenzie avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Reed Mckenzie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Taka Yoshi.
Yoshi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mckenzie gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Yoshi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Yoshi decides to pull guard.
Mckenzie is looking to stand up but Yoshi won't let him.
Mckenzie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mckenzie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mckenzie connects with a couple of short punches.
Mckenzie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mckenzie with a flurry of punches that miss.
Yoshi looking for a sweep. Not yet Yoshi, not yet.
Mckenzie throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Yoshi closes the distance and pushes Mckenzie back into the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Yoshi pulls Mckenzie into guard.
Reed Mckenzie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Taka Yoshi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mckenzie throws a strike but Yoshi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


And that's the end of the fight!
Taka Yoshi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Yoshi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
