PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alden Mccoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristo Santo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Santo's choice of entrance music: Danza Kuduro. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alden Mccoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cristo Santo!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Santo.

Santo moves into range and clinches up with Mccoy.
Santo misses with a short punch on the inside.

Santo gets control of Mccoy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Santo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Santo is looking to stand up but Mccoy isn't so interested in that idea.
Mccoy would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mccoy throws a big right hand that misses.

Mccoy wanted to stand there but Santo had control of the position.

Mccoy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Santo is proving hard to escape from.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mccoy throws a push kick but Santo slaps the foot to one side.

Mccoy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Santo, pushing him back against the cage.
Santo presses Mccoy against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Mccoy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Santo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Santo breaks the clinch.

Santo instigates a clinch.
Mccoy jumps guard but Santo stands there with Mccoy around his waist. Mccoy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Santo manages to pull guard.
Mccoy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Santo is proving hard to escape from.

Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Hilo inform us that Santo has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Mccoy wanted to stand there but Santo had control of the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Santo wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mccoy manages to pass to side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mccoy tries to control but Santo wriggling away.

A close round but Cristo Santo will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Santo rushes Mccoy and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Mccoy has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Santo regains guard immediately.
Mccoy would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Santo looking for subs off his back but Mccoy has passed one foot through into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santo is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Santo pushes Mccoy up against the cage in a clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mccoy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mccoy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Mccoy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Santo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Santo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Santo wants to get up but he can't break Mccoy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Santo throws a jab but it's blocked by Mccoy.
As Santo tries to get set, Mccoy tries to push him back and clinch up but Santo manages to avoid the attempt.

Santo moves into the clinch.
Santo tries to pull guard but Mccoy forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Santo goes for a takedown attempt but Mccoy pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mccoy stuffs the takedown attempt from Santo. Santo gets slowly back to his feet.
Alden Mccoy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cristo Santo.
Santo is breathing heavily.

Mccoy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Mccoy has Santo pressed against the cage, preventing Santo from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The referee is keeping an eye on Mccoy - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Mccoy changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Santo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Mccoy throws a wild body kick that Santo sees coming a mile off.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Santo clinches up against the cage.
Santo lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Santo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Santo has a takedown stuffed.
Mccoy tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Santo manages to circle out of the way.
Santo goes for a double leg but Mccoy avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mccoy continues to drive forward.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alden Mccoy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cristo Santo.

Mccoy is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Santo is keeping busy.

Santo wants to get back to his feet but Mccoy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mccoy wants to stand and escape but instead Santo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Cristo Santo seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Santo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mccoy closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Santo did well to prevent Mccoy getting side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Santo pushes Mccoy off but Mccoy dives into side control.

Mccoy tries to score with some ground and pound. Santo controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Santo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Santo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mccoy but Mccoy pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mccoy tries to counter by clinching up but Santo breaks away and moves out of range.
Santo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mccoy darts in looking for a takedown but Santo gets double underhooks and turns Mccoy into the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mccoy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Santo looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Santo takes the fight into the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alden Mccoy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mccoy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
