PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jandre Vorster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jim Murphy was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jandre Vorster!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vorster darts in trying to clinch
and Murphy counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Murphy throws out a powerful jab.
Murphy moves into range and connects with a jab.
Vorster wants to clinch but Murphy slips to the side
enabling Murphy to counter with a crisp jab.
Vorster tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Murphy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Murphy looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Murphy lands the left hand.

Vorster has closed the distance and engaged Murphy in a clinch.

Vorster pulls guard.

Vorster is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Murphy defends well.
Murphy wants to control from the top but Vorster keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Murphy connects with a couple of short punches.
Vorster working a defensive guard but Murphy passes into half guard.
Vorster keeping control of the position.

Vorster looking for submissions off his back.
Murphy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Vorster won't allow Murphy to pass to mount.
Murphy uses his free foot to push down on Vorster's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Vorster.
Murphy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vorster. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Murphy looking to control but Vorster is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Vorster tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Murphy trying to control but Vorster is having none of it.
Vorster wants to hold on but Murphy pushes him away.
Vorster definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Vorster is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Vorster regains half guard.

Murphy wants to control but Vorster is keeping him busy.
Murphy is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Vorster is looking to control Murphy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vorster avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Murphy tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Vorster moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Vorster looking for subs off his back but Murphy has passed one foot through into half guard.

Vorster looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Murphy tries to stand and escape but Vorster is controlling the position.
Vorster tries to get to full guard but Murphy has control of the leg.
Vorster has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Murphy is working away from the top position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Vorster is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Murphy pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Murphy dominated that round.
That's time! Vorster's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Vorster changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Murphy tries to avoid it but Vorster manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Murphy to the ground. Murphy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Murphy scores with a nice strike.
Jandre Vorster seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vorster darts in trying to clinch
enabling Murphy to counter with a crisp jab.

Vorster closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vorster lands in his opponent's guard.
Murphy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vorster slips nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vorster is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Murphy has his hands clasped together around Vorster's back. He's all about the action.

Murphy is looking for a sweep. Vorster is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Vorster is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Murphy is just riding it out for now. Vorster eventually gives up the hold.
Vorster tries to pass to full mount but Murphy defends it.
Well, if Vorster is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Vorster wants to work for an arm triangle but Murphy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Murphy tries to kick Vorster off but Vorster keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Vorster is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Murphy trying to hold on to Vorster's head to control him but Vorster postures up.

Vorster maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Murphy could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Vorster has cracked it and Murphy is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Vorster!

Jandre Vorster is the new bantamweight champion!
Jandre Vorster decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
