The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matheus will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Brown throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Matheus.
Matheus misses with a straight right.

We've been hearing reports that Brown has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Matheus looks to land a combination. Brown sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

It looks like Philly Brown has been cut.
Matheus punishes Brown's body with a nice straight punch.
Matheus lands with a shot to the body.
Matheus throws the left hand but Brown avoids the punch easily.

Brown dives in and scores a takedown into Matheus's guard.

Brown drops back, looking for a kneebar! Matheus looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Matheus looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Matheus!

Brown tries to buck Matheus off but Matheus is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Brown counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Brown.

Matheus looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Brown jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Matheus walks away with a smile on his face. Brown gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Matheus wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Brown clinches.
Brown wants a takedown.
Brown really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A frustrated look appears on Matheus's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Brown drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Philly Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Brown has hold of one of Matheus's legs. Matheus is fighting the takedown attempt but Brown gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Brown pulls Matheus in close to his closed guard and prevents Matheus from doing any damage or advancing position.

A right-left combo lands from Matheus.
Matheus misses with a jab, cross combination.
Matheus lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Brown circles away quickly and effectively.

Brown wanted to stand there but Matheus had control of the position.

Brown thows a huge punch but Matheus dodges it nicely.
Brown perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Brown moves into range and clinches up with Matheus.

Brown has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Matheus clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Brown has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Matheus has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Brown is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Matheus defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Brown lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Matheus is looking to escape here. Oh dear - Brown has locked on a rear naked choke here! Matheus is tapping out! The fight is over!
