The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roberts bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Carney parries the strikes from Roberts easily there. Roberts is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Carney to escape.
Roberts has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Roberts working the ground and pound but Carney is defending the strikes.
Roberts working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The strikes coming from Roberts are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Roberts decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carney to his feet.
Carney will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
