Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Katsu Higashikuni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melvin Manhoef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manhoef has chosen The Prodigy - Take Me To The Hospital as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 17 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Melvin Manhoef!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Higashikuni checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
We've been hearing reports that Higashikuni has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Manhoef throws a low kick but Higashikuni avoids it.
Higashikuni swings for the body but Manhoef moves out of range.
Higashikuni motions for Manhoef to come forward. Higashikuni throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Higashikuni thumps Manhoef with a low kick.
Manhoef misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Higashikuni.
Higashikuni tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Manhoef pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Higashikuni throws a chopping leg kick but Manhoef manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Manhoef does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Higashikuni lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Manhoef at a distance.

Manhoef cracks Higashikuni with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Higashikuni throws a strike but Manhoef rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Higashikuni looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Manhoef has picked Higashikuni up and slammed him! Higashikuni can't keep hold of the triangle and Manhoef manages to pass to side control!

Higashikuni tries to buck Manhoef off but Manhoef is having none of it.

Manhoef can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Higashikuni is looking to escape.

Manhoef prevents Higashikuni from getting the reversal.
Manhoef controlling the position easily from mount.
Higashikuni has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Manhoef trying to control but he's not successful this time.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Manhoef tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Higashikuni is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Higashikuni manages to get to full guard.

Higashikuni has an active guard here but Manhoef has managed to pass into half guard.
Manhoef passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Higashikuni gets back to half guard.
Higashikuni might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Higashikuni is trying to maintain the position but Manhoef is very close to passing his half guard.
Higashikuni wants to get back to full guard but Manhoef has passed into side control.

Higashikuni is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Manhoef's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Manhoef's back!
Manhoef is trying to remain composed but Higashikuni is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Can Manhoef hold on?! Higashikuni is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Manhoef avoids the strikes from Higashikuni.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Higashikuni's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Higashikuni misses with a punch to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Higashikuni has the hooks in. Manhoef is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Manhoef breaks Higashikuni's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Katsu Higashikuni.
I think Higashikuni has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
