PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bible Basher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edu Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bible Basher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edu Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but Basher shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Alvarez throws a lazy right hand but Basher sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Basher throws a head kick that Alvarez semi-blocks.
We've been told by Basher's head coaches at Heavy Metal that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Basher throws a leg kick which misses Alvarez's front leg but catches the back leg as Alvarez tries to avoid it.
Alvarez moves out of range as Basher throws a body kick.

Alvarez walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Basher fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Alvarez has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Basher looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Basher stalks Alvarez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Alvarez's face. Alvarez staggers backwards, shaken.

Alvarez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Basher has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Alvarez but great work by Basher.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Basher wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alvarez keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alvarez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alvarez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Basher stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Alvarez closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Basher tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alvarez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Alvarez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Basher is fending him off so far but Alvarez persists. Nope, Basher circles away and we're back to standing.
Basher was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Bible Basher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edu Alvarez.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That was a close round but I would say that Bible Basher will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alvarez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Basher tries to avoid it but Alvarez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Basher to the ground. Basher escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Basher connects with a solid leg kick.
That kick from Basher tenderised Alvarez's leg. Alvarez is trying to keep his angry face on.
Basher tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A jab from Basher finds it's way through Alvarez's defenses.

Alvarez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

I would just about give that final round to Edu Alvarez.
