And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Gatsby!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murican throws a sloppy head kick and Gatsby moves out of range easily.
Nice defenses there by Murican.
Gatsby uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Murican.
Gatsby takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Gatsby is looking to score with low kicks.
Murican tried to score with a low kick but Gatsby checks it.
Gatsby takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Gatsby ducks under a wild hook from Murican.
Murican blocks a jab.
Murican appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Marky Mark Murican seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Gatsby connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gatsby moves forwards but Murican connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Murican moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
No luck for Murican with that takedown attempt.
Gatsby shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Murican sprawls well. Murican wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gatsby gets slowly back to his feet.

Murican has his foot on Gatsby's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gatsby works his way back into a safe position though.

Murican has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gatsby can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gatsby accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

My spies in Brazilian Elite Team inform me that Gatsby has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Murican is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gatsby is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Murican is trying to get back to full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Marky Mark Murican will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Murican fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gatsby has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Murican throws a looping overhand right but Gatsby ducks down to avoid it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Murican throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

and Murican counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gatsby stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Murican swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Murican has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Gatsby should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Murican has tightened it up now! Gatsby should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

In his post fight interview, Marky Mark Murican gave a big smile as he said 'MURICAAA Fuck Yeah!'.
In defeat, Jay Gatsby stepped up to the mic, saying 'Damn, I had him. I don't think I'd have lost if... In fact, I'm sure I won this fight, hope you give me a rematch, old sport. Can't repeat the past? Why, of course you can... of course you can. '.
