Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vasiliy Shishkanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyron Woodley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vasiliy Shishkanov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyron Woodley!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shishkanov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shishkanov lands in his opponent's guard.
Woodley wants to sweep but no luck.
Woodley is trying to keep Shishkanov in close.
Woodley might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Shishkanov haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shishkanov won't allow Woodley to sweep him here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Woodley is nestled in close to Shishkanov, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Woodley lands a nice short elbow.
Shishkanov is trying to stand up here but Woodley is controlling him well.

Woodley wants to sweep here but Shishkanov controlling him for the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That was a close round but I would say that Vasiliy Shishkanov will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shishkanov tries for a takedown but Woodley sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Woodley throws a leg kick but Shishkanov sees it coming and moves out of range.

and Shishkanov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Woodley's guard.

Woodley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shishkanov manages to get himself to full guard.

Vasiliy Shishkanov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Woodley working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shishkanov wants to stand but Woodley is controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Shishkanov shoots in for a takedown but Woodley shows good takedown defense.
Woodley drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Shishkanov defends it well.
Woodley shoots in but no luck this time.
A quick step to the side and Shishkanov tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Woodley rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shishkanov moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Woodley will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Woodley throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Tyron Woodley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shishkanov tries to clinch up but Woodley circles away and keeps his distance.

Shishkanov dives in for a single leg takedown but Woodley sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vasiliy Shishkanov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Woodley throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Shishkanov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Woodley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Woodley remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Woodley throws a right hand that Shishkanov ducks under and follows up with a left that Shishkanov also avoids with ease.

Woodley is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Shishkanov's shoulder. That is not cool.

Shishkanov takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Woodley takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Shishkanov makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Shishkanov leaves Woodley with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Woodley shoots in looking for a takedown but Shishkanov manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Woodley's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Well Woodley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
