Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ilya Mstislav Volkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stefan Kung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ilya Mstislav Volkov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stefan Kung!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kung shoots in but Volkov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nice shot by Volkov.
Volkov bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Volkov works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Volkov throws a body kick that misses.
Kung steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Volkov.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kung has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kung shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Volkov as he avoids it easily.

Ilya Mstislav Volkov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stefan Kung.
Volkov connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Volkov lands a big head kick that sends Kung tumbling to the mat! Volkov takes a step backwards and waves Kung back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Kung is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kung steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Volkov.
Kung is still on wobbly legs! Can Volkov finish him?

Volkov closes the distance and clinches.
Kung seems to have recovered his senses.
Volkov tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kung's elbow.
Kung prevents a body shot from Volkov.

Volkov lands a right hand that snaps the head of Kung backwards.

Kung turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kung manages to end up in side control.
Kung trying to control the position but Volkov is working away.
Volkov's coaches at Sali have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Volkov is looking for a sweep.
Volkov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Kung is keen to just control but Volkov is a slippery customer.

Kung is working for a submission of some sort.
Volkov controlling the position for now.
Volkov tries to get to full guard but Kung has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kung controlling the action here.

Kung is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kung thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Volkov tries to roll over but Kung keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Volkov blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kung.

Kung is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Volkov defends it well.
Volkov is looking to control Kung's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Volkov avoid being mounted?
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kung not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Kung is looking to take a break and control but Volkov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kung walks into a stiff left hand from Volkov.
Volkov misses with a body kick.
Kung shoots in for a takedown but Volkov shows good takedown defense.
Kung tries to clinch but Volkov moves out of range.
Volkov looks for the body kick but Kung saw that one coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kung wants to clinch up but Volkov keeps it at a distance.
Volkov feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Volkov. No joy for Kung on that attempt.
Volkov throws a body shot but no joy.
Volkov lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kung's sensitive parts.
Volkov scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kung fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Volkov avoids it really well and circles away.
Kung tries to clinch up but Volkov circles away and keeps his distance.
Volkov loads up on a big right hand but Kung slips the punch.
Kung shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Volkov as he avoids it easily.
Good leg kick by Volkov there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Volkov throws out a loose jab but Kung uses good head movement to avoid it.
Volkov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ilya Mstislav Volkov dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Volkov attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Kung shoots in but no luck this time.
Volkov lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Volkov tries to bum rush Kung with a series of wild strikes but Kung uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kung with the counter takedown but Volkov avoids it easily.
Volkov feints with a left and delivers a massive head kick! Kung collapses like a ragdoll! Game over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ilya Mstislav Volkov!
