PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Carr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eduardo Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren Martin!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin throws a head kick that misses

and Carr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Martin's guard.

Martin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Carr defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carr is looking to work some ground and pound but Martin has wrist control.
Martin wants to get back to his feet but Carr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Carr could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Martin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Carr wants to stand but Martin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Martin walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Carr checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Martin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Martin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Martin advances to mount.
Martin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carr is looking to escape.

Carr manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Carr is trying to escape back to his feet but Martin uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Carr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Martin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carr keeps working.
Martin advances nicely into full mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Martin is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Martin looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Martin is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Carr has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Carr!
Carr wanted to stand there but Martin had control of the position.
Carr with a flurry of punches that miss.
Martin trying to keep a closed guard but Carr is proving a slippery customer.

Martin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Martin is on top in guard.

Martin looking to sit in guard and control but Carr gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Carr wants to get up but he can't break Martin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Martin wants to stand but Carr is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carr working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Carr postures up and lands a big shot to Martin's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Darren Martin will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Carr gets to his feet - Martin follows without any prompting.
Martin looks to land a combination. Carr sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Eduardo Carr has been cut.
Darren Martin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martin shoots and misses
and Carr counters with a two punch combo.

Martin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Carr!
Martin is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Martin is taking a breather. Carr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Martin stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Martin shoots in but Carr avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Martin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carr sprawls well. Carr wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Martin gets slowly back to his feet.
Eduardo Carr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darren Martin.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carr lands with a straight right. Martin didn't see that one coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darren Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Carr throws a sloppy head kick and Martin moves out of range easily.
Martin looks for a takedown but Carr sprawls well.
Martin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carr went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Martin tries to clinch but Carr moves away

and Carr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Martin's guard.
Carr makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Martin looking for a sweep. Not yet Martin, not yet.

Carr is fighting to break Martin's control of his arms but Martin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Martin is trying to keep Carr in close.
Martin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Martin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Martin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carr throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Martin has taken the fight to the clinch.

Martin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Martin misses with a body shot.
Eduardo Carr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Martin has his takedown stuffed
and Carr counters with a series of strikes. Martin will be more careful next time no doubt.

Carr tries to keep at a distance but Martin has taken the fight into the clinch.
Martin avoids the elbow strike from Carr, against the cage.

Martin stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Carr looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Carr keeps control of Martin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Carr jumps into guard, dragging Martin to the mat.
Carr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martin manages to get himself to full guard.


Carr stands and steps away. Martin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Martin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Eduardo Carr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darren Martin.
Martin throws a head kick that misses.
Carr pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Martin back to the cage. Carr follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Eduardo Carr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carr throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Martin blocks a head kick by Carr.
Carr wants to clinch.
Martin wants to counter the offense by Carr and move into the clinch position.

I think Martin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
