PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk comes into the arena with Midnite in Tokyo blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Brown's choice of entrance music: Rob Zombie - Dragula . I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Thomas Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Brown!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawk closes the distance and clinches.
Hawk throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Hawk lands with a right to the head.
Hawk tries a body shot but Brown blocks it.
Hawk scores with a nice hook to the head.
Brown slowing the pace effectively.
Brown throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hawk blocks it with crossed arms.

Hawk has picked Brown up - he's going for a ride! Hawk dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Hawk throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hawk has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Brown has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Hawk is on him like a limpet, forcing Brown back against the ropes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hawk tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Brown's elbow.
Hawk tries a body shot but Brown blocks it.
Hawk scores with a hook to the body.
Hawk misses with a body punch.

Hawk wants the takedown. Brown is fighting it off but Hawk persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brown's guard against the ropes.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Hawk with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawk connects with a couple of short punches.
Hawk prevents Brown from getting back to his feet.
Hawk throwing strikes but missing.
Hawk advances position into side control!
Hawk lands a decent elbow from side control.
Hawk lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hawk in side control lands a decent elbow.
Hawk landing strikes.
Hawk working the ground and pound but Brown is defending the strikes.
Hawk lands some shots froms side control.


Brown is rocked!
Hawk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brown keeps working.
Brown is still in real trouble! Can Hawk finish him?
Hawk throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Brown seems to have recovered his senses.
Brown is looking to regain half guard here but Hawk keeps moving and retains side control.

Hawk is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Brown has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hawk creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Brown sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawk misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Brown has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Brown on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Brown wants to get back to his feet but Hawk drags him back down.
Hawk cracks Brown with a big elbow.

Hawk is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brown is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Brown is trying to control Hawk's posture but Hawk avoids it.
Hawk tries to move to mount but Brown blocks the move with his legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brown takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Hawk scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Brown is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Hawk can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Thomas Hawk!
During a confident post fight interview, Thomas Hawk thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
