PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Olen Mckinney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Spear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spear has chosen Be Survivor as his entrance music. Mike Spear will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Olen Mckinney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Spear!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mckinney tries for a takedown but Spear circles away easily

and Spear counters with a crisp one two that drops Mckinney! Spear thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Mckinney to his feet! Mckinney is in big trouble!

Spear takes the fight into the clinch.
Mckinney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mckinney tries to pull guard but Spear won't allow it.
Spear is pushing Mckinney up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Mckinney has Spear pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Spear manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Olen Mckinney. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spear prevents the takedown attempt.
Spear is looking to take this one to the mat.
Spear wants to take the fight to the mat but Mckinney manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Mckinney jumps into guard, dragging Spear to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spear being controlled here momentarily.
Spear slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Spear has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mckinney is proving hard to escape from.

Mckinney had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Spear defends it easily.
Spear stays in close to Mckinney's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Spear tries to stand but Mckinney is controlling from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Spear pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mckinney is keeping the position for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Spear fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mckinney shoots for a double leg takedown but Spear sprawls well. He's pushed Mckinney's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Spear shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mckinney eats them both and turns towards Spear to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Olen Mckinney has been cut.
No luck for Spear with that takedown attempt.
Mckinney is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Spear.
Mckinney is looking to clinch but Spear is avoiding it.
Spear fails with a takedown attempt.
Mckinney was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Spear closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mckinney circles away.

Spear closes the distance and pushes Mckinney back into the cage.
Spear jumps guard but Mckinney turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mckinney jumps guard but Spear stands there with Mckinney around his waist. Mckinney gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mckinney struggles to land a body shot inside as Spear controls his hands.
Mckinney tries to pull guard but Spear won't allow it.
Spear leaning against his opponent.
Mckinney swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Spear wants to break the clinch but can't.

Spear pulls Mckinney into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mckinney accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mckinney landing some decent shots from guard.

Spear has his feet on Mckinney's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Spear dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Olen Mckinney's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nice takedown defense from Mckinney. No joy for Spear on that attempt.

Spear drops Mckinney with a beautiful combination! Mckinney stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Spear is looking for the KO!


Mckinney is rocked!

Spear clinches with his opponent.
Oh Mckinney is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mckinney tries to throw a body punch but Spear avoids it by throwing Mckinney back against the cage.
Spear wants to get back to striking at distance but Mckinney won't allow it.
Spear throws a big uppercut that drops Mckinney! More strikes from Spear and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Mckinney lies dazed against the cage as Spear celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Spear!
