PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Rubin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jingle Jingle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jingle has chosen Kay Kyser - I got spurs that jingle jangle jingle as his entrance music. Jingle Jingle will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maxwell Rubin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jingle Jingle!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rubin cracks the inside of Jingle's front leg.

Jingle drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jingle cracks Rubin with a solid left hand.
Jingle trying to control the position from guard on top but Rubin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jingle in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jingle cracks Rubin with a solid left hand.
Jingle won't allow Rubin to sweep him here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jingle missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jingle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rubin's guard.
Jingle wants to pass the guard but Rubin is keeping the position.
Jingle wants to control from the top but Rubin keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jingle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rubin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jingle got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rubin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jingle has managed to get both his arms back between Rubin's legs - danger averted.
We've been hearing good reports from Rubin's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Rubin controls Jingle momentarily but Jingle frees himself.
Jingle works over Rubin with some ground and pound from guard.
Rubin is trying to control the position but Jingle postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rubin keeping moving, preventing Jingle from controlling successfully.
Jingle tries to free his leg and advance position but Rubin is retaining full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jingle fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rubin to the ground. Jingle is now in Rubin's guard.

Jingle lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Jingle wants to control from the top but Rubin keeps moving.
Jingle is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Rubin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jingle can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rubin wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Jingle is now in half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rubin is looking to control Jingle's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rubin avoid being mounted?
Jingle throws a strike but Rubin avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Jingle looking to pass the guard.
Jingle looking to sit in guard and control but Rubin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jingle pulls Rubin in close to prevent any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rubin wants to pass the guard but Jingle is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jingle Jingle dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Jingle closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rubin's guard.

Rubin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jingle is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.

Rubin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jingle doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jingle manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rubin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jingle wants to control from the top but Rubin keeps moving.
Jingle connects with a couple of short punches.
Jingle preventing the sweep.
Rubin pulls Jingle in to control the position.
Jingle is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jingle feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rubin looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jingle has picked Rubin up and slammed him! Rubin can't keep hold of the triangle and Jingle manages to pass to side control!
Rubin is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Rubin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jingle works over Rubin with some ground and pound from guard.
Rubin wants to sweep but no luck.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jingle Jingle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Rubin shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Jingle seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Rubin wants to get back to full guard.
Rubin has hold of Jingle's hands but Jingle slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Rubin wants to improve his position but Jingle is controlling well.

Jingle lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rubin wants to control the action here but instead Jingle manages to pass to full mount!
Maxwell Rubin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Oh Rubin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jingle lands a heavy elbow.

Rubin is working to get back to half guard.
Rubin is working hard here to advance position.
Jingle postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rubin looks a forlorn figure.

Jingle swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Rubin is now in Jingle's guard. A big mistake from Jingle there, giving up the dominant position!
Jingle Jingle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Rubin seems to have got his legs back now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jingle holds on and takes a little breather.

Jingle Jingle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jingle winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jingle Jingle spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
