The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Paul Tew.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gaarlandt feints and then cracks Matus's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Matus down.

Matus is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Gaarlandt with a body shot.
Don Juan Matus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gaarlandt takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Gaarlandt shoots in but no luck this time.
Matus scores with a jab to the jaw.

Gaarlandt throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Matus tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gaarlandt is in Matus's guard.

Gaarlandt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gaarlandt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Matus manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gaarlandt has Matus in his guard.

Gaarlandt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Matus defends it easily.

Gaarlandt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Matus doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Matus manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gaarlandt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Matus defends well.

Gaarlandt has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Matus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gaarlandt seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Gaarlandt is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Let's hope that Matus has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
