PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Wuzz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Machine Gun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machine Gun told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Machine Gun!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gun has managed to clinch.
Gun misses with a hook from the clinch.
Gun softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Wuzz goes for a takedown attempt but Gun pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
The fighters circling - Gun throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Wuzz is looking to counter with a body kick.
Wuzz ducks under a wild hook from Gun.
Gun has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Wuzz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gun on his heels. He'll look to pass Gun's guard now, I'm sure.
Gun wants to stand up but Wuzz is controlling him.

Wuzz drops back looking for a leg! Gun is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gun manages to kick Wuzz off! Wuzz jumps back into Gun's guard.

Gun scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Gun closes the distance and pushes Wuzz back into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gun stops a takedown attempt from Wuzz.

Wuzz drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gun gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Wuzz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wuzz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gun avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gun.
Gun scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Wuzz is trying to pull guard but Gun turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Gun lands a nice uppercut.
Wuzz blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Wuzz breaks from the clinch.
Gun misses with an uppercut.
Wuzz tries for a takedown but Gun sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Machine Gun is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gun checks a leg kick nicely.
Wuzz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Wuzz misses with a takedown
and Gun counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gun throws a looping overhand right but Wuzz ducks down to avoid it.
Wuzz drops down looking for a counter takedown but Gun sprawls and moves away.
Wuzz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gun as he jumps to the side.
Gun swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wuzz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gun, pushing him back against the cage.
Gun stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gun lands a shoulder strike.
Wuzz blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A head punch on the inside from Gun fails to land.
Gun is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Wuzz wants a takedown.
Gun misses with some punches.
Gun is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Gun lands a hook to the side of the head.
Gun lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Gun lands a right hand that snaps the head of Wuzz backwards.
Wuzz is working for takedown but Gun is calmly controlling the position for now.

Wuzz is breathing heavily.

Gun pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gun lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Gun scores with a jab. Wuzz acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Gun looks to land a left hand but Wuzz moved out of range nicely.
Wuzz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Wuzz moves into the clinch.
Gun lands a hook to the side of the head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gun.
Gun lands a body punch in the clinch.
Gun misses with a punch to the body.
Gun lands a nice uppercut.
Gun scores with a nice hook to the head.
Gun lands with a left to the head.
Gun presses Wuzz against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Gun lands a right hand that snaps the head of Wuzz backwards.
Gun throws a head punch that misses.
I was talking to Wuzz's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Wuzz blocks an uppercut.
Gun lands with a short head shot on the inside.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Still in the clinch, Gun scores with a nice short uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gun lands with a left to the head.

Wuzz is rocked!
Gun lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Oh Wuzz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gun lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Gun dips a shoulder and cracks Wuzz with a mighty uppercut! Wuzz falls back against the cage and Gun unloads with a barrage of strikes! Wuzz is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Gun screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Machine Gun!
Machine Gun was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
