PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Reid Wagner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiroshi Osagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Reid Wagner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroshi Osagi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wagner rushes Osagi and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wagner looking to stall.
A frustrated look appears on Wagner's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Osagi breaks the clinch.

Wagner closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Osagi jumps guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Osagi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wagner is controlling him.
Wagner in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Osagi is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wagner wants to stand but Osagi is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Osagi is controlling Wagner's posture.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Wagner is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Osagi is trying to control the position but Wagner postures up.
Osagi has Wagner pulled in close to control his posture.

Wagner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Osagi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wagner has managed to get both his arms back between Osagi's legs - danger averted.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Osagi gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Osagi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Osagi scoring well with a low kick there.
Wagner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Osagi tries to avoid it but Wagner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Osagi to the ground. Osagi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Wagner wants to stall.
Osagi pressing his opponent against the cage.

Osagi has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Wagner regains guard immediately.
Wagner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Osagi throwing strikes but missing.

Osagi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wagner is proving hard to escape from.
Osagi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Osagi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Osagi works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Wagner is looking to improve his position.
Osagi wants to stand up but Wagner has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Osagi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Osagi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
It appears Wagner was looking to counter with a kick there.

Osagi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Osagi is looking for a kimura here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Wagner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Osagi is looking to land body kicks.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Osagi.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Osagi, right into the meat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Osagi.
Wagner parries the strikes from Osagi easily there. Osagi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wagner to escape.
Osagi staying calm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Osagi tries to score with some ground and pound. Wagner controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Osagi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Wagner will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Osagi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wagner keeps working.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Osagi is trying to get an arm triangle but Wagner is defending well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Osagi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Wagner is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Osagi working the ground and pound but Wagner is defending the strikes.
Wagner is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Osagi passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Wagner!
Osagi content just to control the position here.
Osagi thowing shots but they're missing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Osagi controlling his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Osagi thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Osagi jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wagner manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Hiroshi Osagi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Wagner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Osagi closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Wagner quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Osagi throwing shots but Wagner is blocking nicely.
Osagi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Osagi missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Osagi wants to pass the guard but Wagner is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Osagi performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Osagi decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Osagi gets a takedown into half guard.
Osagi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wagner's head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Osagi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wagner regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Osagi.
Osagi trying to control the position from guard on top but Wagner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Osagi is pushing down on Wagner's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wagner is fighting to maintain full guard but Osagi has managed to sneak the leg through.
Osagi works his foot free and advances to mount.
Osagi controlling the pace for now.
Wagner has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Osagi's lack of action.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Osagi not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Osagi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Osagi uses his free foot to push down on Wagner's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wagner.
Wagner is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Osagi controlling the pace for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hiroshi Osagi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Osagi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
