Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pena misses with a takedown

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Johnson has eaten all the pies!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pena wants to stand and escape but Johnson is having none of it.
Johnson passes Pena's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Johnson passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Johnson controlling his opponent.
Johnson blocks Pena's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Johnson content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pena can't escape the position.
Johnson controlling the pace for now.
It looks like Johnson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Pena fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Johnson feints the counter takedown.
Pena tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily

and Johnson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Pena wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Pena has Johnson pressed against the cage, preventing Johnson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Johnson prevents Pena from breaking the clinch.

Johnson has picked Pena up - he's going for a ride! Johnson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Pena is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Johnson slows the pace down in half guard.
Johnson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Johnson is continuing to stall.

Jack Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Pena shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jack Johnson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pena doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Johnson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pena's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robt Pena. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Johnson.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Johnson swats away the attempt to clinch by Pena.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
