PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Mamba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Slevin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mamba kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Here Comes The Hotstepper. Slevin has chosen timber as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobby Mamba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Slevin!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mamba has his takedown stuffed
and Mamba takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mamba shoots in looking for a takedown. Slevin tries to sprawl out of it but Mamba keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Slevin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mamba throws a lazy right hand but Slevin sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mamba bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Mamba shoots in for a takedown but Slevin shows good takedown defense.
Mamba has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Slevin tries to break free but Mamba pushes him back against the cage.
Mamba keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Slevin's efforts to push away.

Mamba shoots in for a takedown but Slevin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Slevin clobbers Mamba with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Slevin looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Slevin's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mamba under the eye.


It looks like Bobby Mamba has been cut.

Mamba half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Mamba ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Slevin throws a jab but it's blocked by Mamba.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slevin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mamba controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Mamba avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mamba is in close to Slevin's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Slevin keeping moving, preventing Mamba from controlling successfully.

Mamba is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Slevin is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mamba seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Slevin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mamba.
Slevin lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Slevin throws a jab when Mamba was well out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Slevin as Mamba shoots in.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Slevin! But no joy.
Slevin might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Slevin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Slevin has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Mamba. Oh but Slevin has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Mamba goes limp - he's gone! Slevin jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
