Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Unai Arana and Optimus Prime. Arana's entrance music is NoMeansNo - Beat on the Brat. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 wins, 11 losses and 2 draws, fighting out of Sydney, Unai Arana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 wins, 3 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Los Angeles, Optimus Prime!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Damien Edna.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Arana.
It looked like Arana was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Prime.
Prime tries for a takedown but Arana sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Prime fails with the takedown
and Arana counters with a low kick, right behind Prime 's knee.
Prime bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Prime looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Nice takedown defense from Arana. No joy for Prime on that attempt.
Unai Arana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Optimus Prime.
Arana uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Prime.
A thudding body kick lands there by Arana!
Prime rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Arana cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Prime shoots in but Arana avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Arana takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prime thuds a left hand into Arana's body.
Arana stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Arana wants it to stay on the feet.
We've been informed that Prime has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Prime shoots in for a double leg but Arana sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Arana fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Arana keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Prime.
Optimus Prime seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Prime dips to his left and cracks Arana with an uppercut!
Prime shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Arana pinned against the cage. Arana gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
It looked like Arana wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Prime tries for a takedown but Arana circles away easily
and Arana cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Optimus Prime has been cut.
Prime connects with a nice looking jab.

Arana throws a sloppy head kick and Prime moves out of range easily.

and Arana counters with a good low kick that Prime was not able to check.
Prime shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Arana sprawls well. Arana wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Prime gets slowly back to his feet.

Prime tries for a takedown but Arana sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Prime shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Arana as he avoids it easily.

Prime tries to score a power double leg takedown but Arana sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Prime somewhat.
Prime misses with a hook.
Prime fails to land the takedown.
Arana slaps away a takedown attempt from Prime, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Prime is defended easily by Arana.
Arana seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Arana takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Arana counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Prime has his foot on Arana's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Arana works his way back into a safe position though.

Arana tries to free his leg and advance position but Prime is retaining full guard.
Prime trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Prime can't keep his opponent in guard - Arana advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Arana wants to pass to mount but Prime is defending the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Arana's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Prime scores with a few weak punches.
Prime is looking to improve his position.
Arana keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arana is trying to control the action in half guard but Prime is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No joy there for Arana, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Prime misses with a straight left.
Prime lands with a hook. Arana tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Arana thows a body kick. Prime tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Prime misses with a hook. Arana ducked under it nicely.
A little feinted left hand from Arana on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Prime tries for a takedown but Arana sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Arana feinted with a counter takedown.
Arana throws a wild body kick that Prime sees coming a mile off.
Prime shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Arana pinned against the cage. Arana gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Prime closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Arana quickly recovers to half guard.
Prime is looking to pass Arana's guard but actually Arana recovers to full guard.
Arana has Prime pulled in close to control his posture.

Prime throwing strikes from guard but Arana blocks nicely.
Prime postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Arana seems keen to control Prime's posture.
Prime throws an elbow that misses. Arana uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Prime's guard. Nice move by Arana!

Arana slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Arana won't allow Prime to sweep him here.
Arana controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Prime throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Prime is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Arana regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Prime.
Prime in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Arana looking for a sweep. Not yet Arana, not yet.
Prime has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Arana controls Prime momentarily but Prime frees himself.
Unai Arana overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Prime trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Arana is on top in guard.

Prime looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Prime manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Arana manages to get himself to full guard.

Arana avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Prime throws an elbow that misses. Arana uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Prime's guard. Nice move by Arana!

Arana is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Prime can do to turn this around?

A close second round but Optimus Prime will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Horrible takedown attempt by Prime or perhaps it was just good defense by Arana, which made it look bad.
Prime takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Arana leaves Prime with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Arana ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Arana throws a big counter combination but Prime scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Prime getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

and Arana counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Arana bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Prime shoots in for a takedown but Arana shows good takedown defense.
Prime takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Prime shoots and misses
and Arana counters with a left to the body.
Arana moves into range and connects with a jab.
Arana tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Arana connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Prime is rocked!
Arana thuds a left hand into Prime's body.
Prime is still on wobbly legs! Can Arana finish him?
Prime drops his hands momentarily. Arana doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Prime staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Prime doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Unai Arana!
A less than humble Unai Arana misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
