PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Hewitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Martin Hewitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jacob Koch!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hewitt doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Koch to counter with a crisp jab.
Hewitt swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Koch doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Koch fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hewitt looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Hewitt pushes Koch up against the cage in a clinch.
Koch misses with a hook to the ribs.
Koch tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Hewitt tries to circle away but Koch has him pinned against the cage.
Koch looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Hewitt prevents Koch from breaking the clinch.
Hewitt lands on the inside with an uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koch digs a right hand underneath Hewitt's ribcage. Hewitt let out a lung full of air as it connected.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Koch.
Hewitt tries to throw a body punch but Koch avoids it by throwing Hewitt back against the cage.

Hewitt is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
We've been hearing reports that Hewitt has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

and Koch counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Hewitt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Koch manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Koch now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Koch throws a lazy uppercut
and Hewitt makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Koch is pulling down on Hewitt's head. It's preventing any offense from Hewitt, at least for the moment.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Koch lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Koch uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Koch connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hewitt's hands.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Koch.

Koch uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hewitt has time to react.

Hewitt throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hewitt tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Koch was well out of range. Poor timing from Hewitt.
Hewitt stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Koch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hewitt.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Martin Hewitt.
I think Koch has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
