Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Freddie Glass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gareth Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Freddie Glass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gareth Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Ron Honeybunn and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Glass, pushing him back against the cage.

Hughes breaks from the clinch.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hughes with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Glass trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Hughes manages to pass to mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hughes has hold of Glass's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Glass manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Glass really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Glass tries to hold on but Hughes postures up.

Glass is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Hughes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Glass tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Glass tries to hold on but Hughes postures up.
Glass working to try and regain half guard.
Hughes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Hughes might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Hughes looking to control but Glass is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Hughes is continuing to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Glass wants to hold on but Hughes pushes him away.
Hughes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Glass is squirming around, avoiding Hughes's attempts to control the action.

Glass is desperately trying to improve his position but Hughes has a good base and remains in mount.
Glass tries to lock up and control but Hughes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hughes throwing strikes here but Glass is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Glass tries to hold on but Hughes postures up.
Glass is looking to improve his position but Hughes isn't that keen on the idea.
Hughes content just to control the position here.

Hughes goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Glass is on top in guard.
Glass wants to get up but he can't break Hughes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Glass is fighting to break Hughes's control of his arms but Hughes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hughes looking for a sweep. Not yet Hughes, not yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hughes is trying to keep Glass in close.

Hughes looking for subs off his back but Glass has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Glass has his takedown stuffed
and Hughes counters with a right hand to the body.
Glass dives in for a single leg takedown but Hughes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Freddie Glass is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hughes scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Freddie Glass has been cut.

Hughes moves into range and clinches up with Glass.

Hughes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Glass uses from the top position.

Hughes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Glass will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Glass not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Glass finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Hughes takes the fight into the clinch.

Hughes pulls guard successfully.

Glass wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.
Hughes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Glass gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hughes checks a leg kick.

Hughes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Glass sneaks back into half guard.
Hughes looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Glass is looking to improve his position.

Hughes stands up from half guard.
Hughes doesn't manage to clinch there - Glass circles away.

Hughes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Glass's guard.
Glass is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hughes controlling from the top position.
Glass keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully.

Hughes looking to pass the guard.
Glass not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hughes looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Hughes wants to stand but Glass is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gareth Hughes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Freddie Glass's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Glass will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hughes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Glass keeps working.

Let's hope that Hughes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Glass can't do much from the bottom here.

Hughes tries to stand but Glass controls the position and pulls Hughes into his guard.

Hughes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Glass's head.
Hughes wants to free his trapped foot but Glass is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hughes not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hughes trying to control the action but Glass is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hughes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Glass, pushing him back against the cage.
Hughes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Glass is defending well for now.
Glass is trying to break the clinch but Hughes is controlling him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hughes is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Glass has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hughes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hughes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hughes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Glass slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Freddie Glass has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gareth Hughes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hughes is pulling down on Glass's head to control his posture.

Well Hughes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
