Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Newman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Martin Westphal!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Paulo Santos and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Newman gets tackled into the cage by Westphal. Westphal maintains the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Newman enables Westphal to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Newman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Newman is working an open guard so Westphal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Newman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Westphal closes the distance and pushes Newman back into the cage.

Westphal has hold of one of Newman's legs. Newman is fighting the takedown attempt but Westphal gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

It looks like Westphal might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, if Westphal is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Martin Westphal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Newman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Newman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Charles Newman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Westphal is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Newman's half guard.

Westphal is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Newman defends it well.

Newman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Newman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Westphal has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Newman has managed to get both his arms back between Westphal's legs - danger averted.

Martin Westphal is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Westphal tries to bum rush Newman with a series of wild strikes but Newman uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Martin Westphal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Westphal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
