PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Alvarado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jace Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Samuel Alvarado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jace Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armstrong drives through with a takedown into Alvarado's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Armstrong wants to stand but Alvarado has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Armstrong lands a couple of digs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvarado wants to stand up but Armstrong is controlling him.
Armstrong preventing the sweep.
Alvarado can't keep his opponent in guard - Armstrong advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Armstrong tries to pass to full mount but Alvarado defends it.
Alvarado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Armstrong moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Alvarado.

Alvarado regains half guard there - taking advantage of Armstrong's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Armstrong tries to stand but can't do so whilst Alvarado controls his leg.
Alvarado wants to stand back up but Armstrong manages to pass into side control.
Armstrong slows the pace down.
Alvarado is pushing Armstrong's head away, looking to escape. Armstrong manages to hold on to the position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Armstrong trying to control the action but Alvarado is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alvarado can't do much from the bottom here.
Alvarado is looking to regain half guard here but Armstrong keeps moving and retains side control.
Alvarado is being controlled here.
Armstrong wants to stand but Alvarado is controlling his arm.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Alvarado tries to clinch up but Armstrong circles away and keeps his distance.
Armstrong lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Armstrong moves into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Alvarado is fighting off a takedown attempt but Armstrong is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Alvarado to the mat. Alvarado regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Alvarado looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Armstrong stops Alvarado from standing up.
Armstrong postures up and lands a big shot to Alvarado's brow.
Armstrong won't allow Alvarado to get back to his feet.
Alvarado throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Armstrong throws a big elbow that misses.
Armstrong has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Alvarado is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Armstrong showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Armstrong rushes Alvarado and presses him up against the cage.

Armstrong breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Armstrong darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Armstrong throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alvarado is trying to stand back up but Armstrong is controlling him
Armstrong is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jace Armstrong dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Armstrong dives in and scores a takedown into Alvarado's guard.
Alvarado is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Armstrong is controlling him.
Armstrong engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Armstrong wants to pass the guard but Alvarado is keeping the position.
Alvarado has momentary wrist control but Armstrong slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarado wants to stand but Armstrong is controlling the position.

Armstrong drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Armstrong jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Alvarado looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Armstrong is fending him off so far but Alvarado persists. Nope, Armstrong circles away and we're back to standing.
Alvarado tries to clinch but Armstrong moves out of range.

Armstrong shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Armstrong was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Armstrong advances to full mount.
Armstrong lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong tries to control but Alvarado wriggling away.
Armstrong sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Alvarado is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Armstrong can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alvarado is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Armstrong connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Armstrong controlling the pace for now.
Armstrong landing strikes, looking to finish!


Alvarado is rocked!
Armstrong raining down hammerfists from mount.
Oh Alvarado is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Armstrong working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Armstrong looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Armstrong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Armstrong wants to get back to his feet but Alvarado is holding on tight.
Alvarado wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alvarado is trying to stand back up.
Armstrong just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Armstrong lands shots to the head and Alvarado turtles up! The ref has seen enough and stops the fight! This one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jace Armstrong!
