PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Solis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cesar Baltik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cesar Baltik will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick Solis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cesar Baltik!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Eddie Farnsworth and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baltik rushes Solis and presses him up against the cage.
Baltik blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Solis manages to break the clinch.

Baltik dives in and scores a takedown into Solis's guard.
Solis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Solis working over Baltik with some ground and pound. Baltik looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Solis passes into side control, despite Baltik's attempt to control the position.
Baltik is looking to regain half guard here but Solis keeps moving and retains side control.

Solis stands up.

Baltik shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Solis keeping full guard, as Baltik tries to pass.
Solis seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Solis is on top in guard.

Solis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Baltik looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Solis passes into half guard.

Baltik keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Baltik is trying to maintain the position but Solis is very close to passing his half guard.
Solis lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Solis gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Baltik gets tackled into the cage by Solis. Solis maintains the clinch.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Solis obliges.
Solis unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Solis landing knees to the body.
Solis misses with a hook to the ribs.

Solis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Solis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Baltik's half guard.
Baltik is trying to maintain the position but Solis is very close to passing his half guard.
Solis throwing shots but Baltik is blocking nicely.
Solis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Solis lands with a punch from half guard.
Baltik tries to roll over but Solis keeps him under control.

Solis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Baltik sees it coming and defends easily.
Solis throwing shots but Baltik is blocking nicely.

Baltik looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Solis pushes past his half guard into mount!
Baltik looks winded!
Solis putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Solis lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Baltik hang on?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Solis dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Baltik moves into the clinch.
Baltik takes a knee right on the jaw!

Solis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Baltik getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Solis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Baltik to score an easy takedown into full guard.


Solis is rocked!
Solis trying to keep a closed guard but Baltik is proving a slippery customer.
Oh Solis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Baltik cracks Solis with a solid left hand.
Patrick Solis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Baltik trying to move into half guard but instead Solis has managed to sweep!

Baltik looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Baltik looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Solis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Solis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Solis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Baltik doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Solis.
Solis tries to stand and escape but Baltik is controlling the position.

Solis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Solis prevents Baltik from standing back up.
Solis seems to have got his legs back now.
Baltik is breathing heavily.

Solis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Solis working Baltik over with strikes.
Well, if Solis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Solis passes into side control, despite Baltik's attempt to control the position.
Solis landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Solis stands up.
Baltik misses with a hook

and Solis counters by clinching up.
Solis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Baltik has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Solis regains guard immediately.
Solis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Baltik manages to get himself to full guard.

Solis with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Solis stands up and waves to Baltik to follow him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Baltik closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Baltik lands in his opponent's guard.
Solis controlling Baltik's posture.
Solis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Baltik's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Solis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Solis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Baltik wants to improve his position but instead Solis has moved into half guard.
Baltik on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Solis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Solis is nestled in close to Baltik, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Solis maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Baltik could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Solis has cracked it and Baltik is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Solis!
