Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gordon Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Patterson backs up against the cage.

Patterson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wood seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Patterson throws a big elbow that misses.
Patterson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wood keeping full guard, as Patterson tries to pass.
Wood keeping moving, preventing Patterson from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wood wants to sweep but no luck.
My spies in LOD: Performance Center inform me that Patterson has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wood utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Patterson with a flurry of punches that miss.

Patterson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Wood is breathing heavily.
Wood is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Patterson asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Wood is not content to let Patterson control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Patterson cracks Wood with a big elbow.
Patterson advances to mount.
Patterson throws some wild stikes that Wood manages to avoid easily.
Patterson tries to control but Wood wriggling away.
Patterson with shots to the head and body - Wood looks very uncomfortable down there.
Patterson is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Patterson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Patterson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wood is looking to escape.
Patterson lands with some strikes.
Wood in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Wood knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Patterson on the ground.
Patterson wants to control the pace but Wood is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Patterson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Patterson trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Wood wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Patterson.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Patterson seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Wood is holding on tight.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gordon Patterson dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Wood gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Patterson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patterson wants to control from the top but Wood keeps moving.
Patterson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Patterson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wood is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Patterson, into his guard.

Wood will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Patterson is looking for a triangle but Wood pushes his legs off easily.
Wood trying to control but Patterson is working from the bottom.
Wood is fighting to break Patterson's control of his arms but Patterson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Wood wants to stand and escape but instead Patterson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Patterson advances to half guard.

Patterson is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Wood is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gordon Patterson!
