AMS FC 103: Nightmares PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Burns and Michel Teló. Burns comes into the arena with Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic Three - The Roof Is On Fire blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Teló's choice of entrance music: Michel Telo - Ai se eu te pego. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teló's jab looks to have found its range, popping Burns under the eye.

and Burns counters with a right hand to the body.
Burns dips to his left and cracks Teló with an uppercut!
Teló lands a nice leg kick that just misses Burns's sensitive parts.
Burns lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Teló misses with a straight left.
Burns was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Teló lands with a slapping head kick.
Teló uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Burns.
Good standup being displayed there by Teló as he connects with a hook.

Burns changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Teló looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Burns wants to control but Teló is keeping him busy.
We've been hearing that Burns has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Burns goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Teló rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Burns's guard! Nice work there by Teló!
Teló controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Teló tries to stand but Burns is controlling from the bottom.
Teló throws an elbow that misses. Burns uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Teló's guard. Nice move by Burns!

Burns tries to free his leg and advance position but Teló is retaining full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Teló seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Teló stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Teló wants it to stay on the feet.
Teló takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Burns misses with an uppercut. Teló saw that one coming.
Teló misses with a looping right.
Burns on the wrong end of a nice jab.

and Burns counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Burns throws a lazy right hand but Teló sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Burns fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Teló sprawls well initially but Burns persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Teló tries to roll over but Burns keeps him under control.

Burns maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Teló could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Burns has cracked it and Teló is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Burns!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Brian Burns!
After winning the bout, Brian Burns thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
