PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Filiberto Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakub Wooddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Filiberto Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jakub Wooddy!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cooper drives through and clinches with Wooddy against the cage.

Wooddy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cooper blocks a head kick by Wooddy.
Wooddy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Cooper makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cooper crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Wooddy - the referee stops the clock and Cooper gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Wooddy. Cooper manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Cooper could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Wooddy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cooper, pushing him back against the cage.
Wooddy tries to land knees in the clinch but Cooper avoids the damage to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Wooddy lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Filiberto Cooper has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wooddy is trying to force a seperation but Cooper has the dominant position.

Wooddy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cooper avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wooddy is looking to clinch but Cooper is avoiding it.
Nice sprawl there from Cooper as Wooddy shoots in.
A solid body kick from Wooddy.
Nice takedown defense from Cooper. No joy for Wooddy on that attempt.
Filiberto Cooper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jakub Wooddy.
Cooper lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wooddy's sensitive parts.

Cooper gets a clinch.
Cooper dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Wooddy wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cooper has him pressed against the cage.
Wooddy missing with knees to the body.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Wooddy stalls.

Cooper lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Cooper is looking to stall here but Wooddy recovers full guard.
Wooddy wants to sweep here but Cooper controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wooddy is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Cooper's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wooddy wants to improve his position but instead Cooper has moved into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooper is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wooddy is just riding it out for now. Cooper eventually gives up the hold.
Wooddy is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cooper trying to control the action but Wooddy is working from the bottom.
Cooper tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wooddy is looking to escape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wooddy wants to clinch up but Cooper keeps it at a distance.
Cooper has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Wooddy.

Wooddy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Wooddy jumps guard but Cooper stands there with Wooddy around his waist. Wooddy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Wooddy stalling in the clinch but Cooper improves position.
Wooddy tries to pull guard but Cooper won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wooddy manages to break the clinch.
Wooddy wants to clinch but Cooper slips to the side
and Cooper makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Cooper sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wooddy throws a lazy body kick
and Cooper counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Cooper lands a nice hook to Wooddy's body. Wooddy takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Wooddy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Cooper to counter with a crisp jab.
Filiberto Cooper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jakub Wooddy.

and Cooper counters with a leg kick.
Wooddy is breathing heavily.
Wooddy throws a sloppy head kick

and Cooper counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wooddy won't be happy with that.

Cooper is working to tighten his grip on Wooddy's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Wooddy has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Cooper is really squeezing tight and eventually Wooddy passes out! Cooper breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Filiberto Cooper!
