Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Boulder!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Boulder. No joy for Alexander on that attempt.
No joy there for Boulder, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Alexander seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Horrible takedown attempt by Alexander or perhaps it was just good defense by Boulder, which made it look bad.

Alexander closes the distance and clinches.

Boulder manages to break the clinch.
Alexander fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Alexander. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boulder looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boulder tries to keep at a distance but Alexander has taken the fight into the clinch.
Boulder misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Alexander.

Boulder lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boulder tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alexander knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Still in half guard, Boulder seems content to control.
Alexander is trying to get back to full guard.

Alexander is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Boulder pulls his head out easily.

Boulder wants to get back to his feet.

Alexander is not content to let Boulder control the position.
Boulder throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Alexander is staying active underneath Boulder, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Boulder prevents Alexander from improving his position.
Boulder is looking to take a break and control but Alexander is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Boulder dives in and grabs Alexander's left leg, looking for a takedown. Alexander pushes down on Boulder's head and hops out.

Alexander defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Boulder.

Alexander is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Boulder's half guard.

Alexander is nestled in close to Boulder, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Boulder felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alexander blocks the strikes from Boulder.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alexander slows the pace down in half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boulder can do anything to dispel that myth.
Boulder is trying to control but can't.
Alexander thows a huge punch but Boulder dodges it nicely.
Alexander perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Alexander in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Boulder tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Alexander!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paul Alexander!
Paul Alexander bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
