PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Eckstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jessie Holloway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Eckstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jessie Holloway!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eckstein lands a nice hook to Holloway's body. Holloway takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Holloway tries a head kick but it misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Eckstein. Holloway does a little dance to reset his feet.
Holloway throws the left hand but Eckstein avoids the punch easily.
Eckstein fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Holloway has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Eckstein throws a body shot but no joy.
Holloway has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Eckstein.
Eckstein moves out of range as Holloway throws a body kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Eckstein.
A decent looking cross lands there for Eckstein.

Eckstein fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Holloway, pushing him back against the cage.
Holloway is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Holloway is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Eckstein to keep the fight standing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Holloway manages to break the clinch.
Jason Eckstein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eckstein with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Eckstein works Holloway's body with a nice hook.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Eckstein.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eckstein feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Holloway's calf.
Eckstein lands a leg kick that knocks Holloway off balance momentarily.
Eckstein throws a quick inside leg kick.
Eckstein lands a right hook to the body.

Eckstein rushes Holloway and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Eckstein lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Holloway pulls guard effortlessly.
Holloway pulls Eckstein in close to his closed guard and prevents Eckstein from doing any damage or advancing position.
Eckstein knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Holloway on the ground.
Eckstein looking to sit in guard and control but Holloway gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Holloway content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Holloway wants to control from the top but Eckstein keeps moving.
Holloway seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Holloway postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Holloway trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Holloway is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Eckstein's jab looks to have found its range, popping Holloway under the eye.
Holloway shoots in looking for a takedown but Eckstein manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Holloway's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jason Eckstein has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jessie Holloway.
Holloway takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
We've been told by Eckstein's head coaches at Humboldt Park Elite Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Holloway darts in looking for a takedown but Eckstein gets double underhooks and turns Holloway into the cage.
Holloway looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Holloway moves forwards but Eckstein connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A punch lands to the side of Holloway 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Eckstein swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Eckstein - that will leave a mark!
Holloway's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Eckstein scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Eckstein cracks the inside of Holloway's front leg.
Eckstein turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Holloway's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Eckstein connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Holloway scrambles back to his feet.


Holloway is rocked!
Eckstein thuds a left hand into Holloway's body.
Holloway is still on wobbly legs! Can Eckstein finish him?
Holloway looks winded!
Holloway is holding his hands too far apart here. Eckstein throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Holloway is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jason Eckstein!
Jason Eckstein decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
