PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darrell Solomon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Darrell Solomon has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Darrell Solomon seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darrell Solomon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Castillo!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Solomon misses with a takedown attempt

and Castillo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Solomon won't be happy with that.

Castillo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Solomon to his feet.

Castillo gets a clinch.
Solomon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Castillo walks away with a smile on his face. Solomon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Castillo closes the distance and clinches up with Solomon, looking for a takedown. Castillo pushes Solomon against the cage but Solomon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Castillo tries to bum rush Solomon with a series of wild strikes but Solomon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Solomon looking for subs off his back but Castillo has passed one foot through into half guard.

Castillo is looking to take a break and control but Solomon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Castillo decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Castillo.
Solomon appears to be looking for a big counter.

Solomon drives through and clinches with Castillo against the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Solomon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Castillo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darrell Solomon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Castillo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Castillo slaps away a takedown attempt from Solomon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Castillo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Solomon half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Castillo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Castillo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Solomon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Solomon appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Solomon leaves Castillo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Solomon fakes the leg kick and cracks Castillo in the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Solomon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Castillo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Solomon as he avoids it easily.
Solomon changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Castillo moves into range and clinches up with Solomon.
Castillo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Castillo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Solomon uses from the top position.
Castillo wants to sweep here but Solomon controlling him for the moment.

Castillo is working an open guard so Solomon takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Solomon throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Castillo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Solomon's waist but Solomon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Castillo off to one side.
Darrell Solomon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Castillo.

Joe Castillo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Solomon enables Castillo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Solomon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Solomon winds up and cracks Castillo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Solomon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Solomon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Castillo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Solomon is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A slapping body kick lands there for Castillo.

Solomon blocks the body kick.
Castillo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Solomon paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Castillo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

I've got Castillo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
