PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tim Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Hayabusa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hansen kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is AC/DC - Big Gun. Hayabusa is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bombs Away by Bob. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tim Hansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Hayabusa!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hayabusa shoots in and gets a takedown into Hansen's guard.
Hayabusa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hansen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hayabusa is still trying to improve position.
Hayabusa trying to control but Hansen is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hayabusa wants to pass the guard but Hansen is keeping the position.
Hayabusa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hansen manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Hayabusa has had enough of the clinch but Hansen keeps him there for the moment.
Hansen misses with some punches.
Hansen is trying to stall.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Hansen throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hayabusa blocks it with crossed arms.
Hayabusa tries to throw a body punch but Hansen avoids it by throwing Hayabusa back against the cage.
Hansen misses with a knee strike.

Hansen manages to break the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Hansen. No joy for Hayabusa on that attempt.
Hansen looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hayabusa misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hansen.
Hansen is looking for a counter combo.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hansen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hayabusa changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hansen throws a low kick but Hayabusa avoids it.
Hayabusa blocks a head kick by Hansen.
Hayabusa is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Hayabusa fails with the takedown.

Hayabusa drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hayabusa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hayabusa controls the position from side control.

Hayabusa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hayabusa misses with the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hayabusa works to advance to full mount. Hansen defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Hayabusa forces the positional change into back control.

Hayabusa has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hansen has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Hayabusa is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hansen is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Hayabusa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hansen wants to slow Hayabusa down by chopping away at his legs.
Hayabusa looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Hansen fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Hayabusa checks it well.
Tim Hansen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hansen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Hansen throws a sloppy body shot
and Hayabusa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hayabusa slips a jab and a cross from Hansen.
Hayabusa tries to clinch but Hansen moves out of range.

Hansen is looking to chop away at Hayabusa's legs.
Hayabusa is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Hayabusa checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Hayabusa tries for a takedown but Hansen circles away easily
and Hansen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Hayabusa manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hansen on his heels. He'll look to pass Hansen's guard now, I'm sure.

Hayabusa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hayabusa won't allow Hansen to get back to his feet.

Hayabusa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hayabusa wants to control from the top but Hansen keeps moving.
Hayabusa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hansen is keeping the position for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hayabusa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hayabusa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hansen wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Hansen gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hayabusa wants to take Hansen's back but he can't do it this time.
Hayabusa looking to control but Hansen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Hayabusa tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hayabusa pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hansen is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Hayabusa has taken his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Hayabusa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hansen just misses with a punch to the body.
Hansen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hayabusa closes the distance and clinches up with Hansen, looking for a takedown. Hayabusa pushes Hansen against the cage but Hansen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
An attempted straight right counter from Hansen misses the target.

Hayabusa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hansen is trying to defend but Hayabusa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Hayabusa is trying to control the action in half guard but Hansen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hayabusa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hansen but Hansen pushes him off and we're back to square one.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hayabusa takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Hayabusa walks into a jab.
Hayabusa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hayabusa feints and as Hansen raises his hands in defense, Hayabusa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Akira Hayabusa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hansen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hayabusa is controlling him.

Tim Hansen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hansen has his foot on Hayabusa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hayabusa works his way back into a safe position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Akira Hayabusa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hayabusa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
