The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barakus takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Thompson clobbers Barakus with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Barakus shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Thompson is trying to defend but Barakus finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Thompson wants to improve his position but Barakus is controlling well.
Barakus lands with a punch from half guard.
Barakus is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thompson is just riding it out for now. Barakus eventually gives up the hold.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barakus seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thompson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Barakus manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Thompson on his heels. He'll look to pass Thompson's guard now, I'm sure.

Barakus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Thompson, up you get!
Hunter Thompson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thompson feints and then cracks Barakus's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Barakus down.
Barakus blocks a head kick by Thompson.

A looping hook to the body misses from Thompson. Barakus does a little dance to reset his feet.
Thompson cracks the inside of Barakus's front leg.
Barakus shoots in but no luck this time.
Thompson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Barakus on the side of the head.

Barakus looks for a takedown but Thompson sprawls well.
As Barakus backs away, Thompson returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Thompson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thompson wants it to stay on the feet.
Thompson appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Hunter Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barakus takes one to the side of the head.
Thompson cracks Barakus with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Barakus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thompson tries to avoid it but Barakus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thompson to the ground. Thompson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hunter Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kj Barakus.
Thompson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Kj Barakus is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Barakus takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Thompson closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Barakus! Thompson dives in looking to finish! Barakus is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

A very excited looking Hunter Thompson rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
