PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Carney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tanner Devlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Devlin has chosen Encore as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ruben Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tanner Devlin!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Devlin darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Carney trying to control but Devlin postures up.
Devlin is keen to just control but Carney is a slippery customer.
Devlin works his foot free and advances to mount.
Devlin avoids the attempt from Carney to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Devlin is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Carney can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Carney really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Carney is just holding on here. Devlin manages to take his back.

Carney is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Devlin gets his way!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carney is keeping busy.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Carney gets to his feet - Devlin follows without any prompting.
Devlin fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Carney has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Devlin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carney's half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carney is trying to maintain the position but Devlin is very close to passing his half guard.
Carney tries to roll over but Devlin keeps him under control.
Carney wants to control but Devlin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Devlin is stalling here. Carney is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Devlin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Carney has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Carney stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Devlin is trying to work for a kimura but Carney is defending well.
Carney wants to control but Devlin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tanner Devlin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Devlin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Devlin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Carney wants to control but Devlin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Devlin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Devlin stands up and beckons Carney to his feet.
Devlin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carney swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Devlin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carney defends it well.

Devlin is thwarting Carney's attempts to control the position.
Devlin is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Devlin is looking to advance position but Carney won't allow it.
Devlin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Devlin is stalling here. Carney is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Devlin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Carney has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Carney decides to stand back up.
Devlin throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


Carney is rocked!

Devlin lands a huge takedown. Carney is out but the ref is slow to react and Devlin lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Carney lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tanner Devlin!
After winning the bout, Tanner Devlin thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
