The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Freire closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gomez's guard.

Gomez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Freire drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Freire jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Freire has gone for a leg lock! Gomez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Freire's guard.

Freire controls Gomez momentarily but Gomez frees himself.

Freire throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gomez escapes and throws Freire's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Freire regains half guard.

Freire has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Gomez. Oh but Freire has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Gomez goes limp - he's gone! Freire jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
